CDs received by school system

The Wayne County public schools received $35,000 worth of music CDs this week that will be used as instructional materials for students.
As part of an antitrust settlement reached between attorneys general of 50 states and several music distributors in 2004, the school system was given 2,306 CDs.
The settlement resolved allegations that music companies had unlawfully raised prices of prerecorded music to consumers.
Under the agreement, public school districts, libraries, universities, community colleges, and other nonprofit agencies received free CDs.
Olivia Pierce, executive director for community relations, media and technology, said, "We're very excited to have the opportunity to get these resources for our schools. They will be used to enhance our music curriculum."
The CDs will be used to support instruction in history classes, integrating technology into the classrooms. Many of the CDs are jazz, blues, classical, Celtic and instrumental.
Others feature such artists as Aretha Franklin, Duke Ellington, Yanni, Dizzy Gillespie, and the Boston Pops.
