Two people shot

A woman and a man were wounded Friday night in separate shootings, according to Goldsboro police reports. No arrests have been made.

The victims, Renea Monique Smith, 24, of Frank Street and Antwon Battle, 20, of Fussell Street were rushed to Wayne Memorial Hospital for treatment. Ms. Smith has been released. Battle was listed Saturday night in stable condition, a spokesman said.

Ms. Smith told police that she was standing at the corner of Olivia Lane and Hugh Street at about 7 p.m. with several men. She said she heard about five gunshots and realized that she had been struck in the thigh.

The gunshots came from a dark two-door car, witnesses said. Ms. Smith said she could not describe the shooter.

Battle told police that he was riding his bicycle at about 10 p.m. at North George and Fussell streets. He said two black men asked him to come over to where they were, but he declined and rode away, police said.

The report said the two men then shot Battle in the back. He managed to pedal to a nearby gas station, where the attendant called for help.

Police Investigator Neil Lynch was assigned to the shootings.

Police also are investigating a predawn shooting Saturday that damaged a new sport utility vehicle in the 1000 block of Hugh Street.

The owner, Marloe Coley, 31, of South John Street, said someone drove alongside his 2004 Dodge Durango and a passenger opened fire, shattering a back windshield and striking the bumper, hatch, headrest and interior. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $1,900.

Four hurt in wreck

Four people were injured and damages were estimated at $14,000 in a three-vehicle collision Friday night on South George Street near Veterans Drive, a Goldsboro police report said.

One driver, Nathaniel William Reid, 65, and his passenger, Emma Reid, 64, both of Southern Plaza Drive, Dudley, and another driver, Gloria Mae Thompson, 42, and her passenger, Ashley Thompson, 13, both of Indian Springs Road, Mount Olive, were taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital, the report said. Their conditions were not immediately available.

The third motorist, Aldenci Rodriguez-Martinez, 23, of Casey Mill Road, Dudley, was charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid a collision and not having an operator's license. The chain-reaction, rear-end crash occurred at 6:16 p.m.
