A fire destroyed two rooms at the Best Western this morning, but a fire official was happy that the damage wasn't worse.
The Goldsboro Fire De-partment was dispatched at 10:30 a.m. to the motel on U.S. 70 West in Goldsboro. Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke coming from rooms 131 and 133, which front on the hotel's courtyard.
The fire was mainly confined to those rooms.
"They did a good job," Chief Bobby Greenfield said as he watched his crew finishing its job, shortly before 11 a.m. "Those rooms were severely damaged, but it's good compared to what the potential damage was."
No one was in either room when firefighters arrived, and no injuries were reported. Motel workers could not confirm whether the rooms had been rented.
The Goldsboro Police Department will investigate the fire, Greenfield said.
