Four charged with drugs in Duplin

KENANSVILLE -- Duplin County Sheriff Blake Wallace announced Wednesday that deputies confiscated drugs and cash from four people after traffic stops last week.
Three men, two of them brothers, and a woman were stopped and arrested on drug charges. Three vehicles, various drugs with a total street value of $8,000, paraphernalia and a total of $4,200 in cash were seized from all of them. Placed under various bonds and scheduled to appear in District Court on Nov. 12 were the following:
*Timothy Lynn Boyette, 41, of Mount Olive, manufacturing, transporting and possession of 35 grams of cocaine, maintaining a vehicle; and possession of marijuana and paraphernalia in the form of rolling papers and plastic bags. Bond $300,000. The stop occurred on Nov. 6.
*Jose Luis-Rodriguez Cruz, 28, of Magnolia, driving without a license and maintaining a vehicle; manufacturing, transporting and possession of 43 grams of cocaine; and littering. Bond $250,000. He was stopped for a traffic violation on Nov. 4 on Johnson Parker Road in the Magnolia-Rose Hill area of Duplin County.
*Cesar Rodriguez Cruz, 18, of Rose Hill, driving without a license, driving left of center, speeding, possession of a gram of cocaine, carrying a concealed .25 caliber pistol, possession of drug paraphernalia (a plastic straw), and reckless driving to endanger. Also seized was a bottle of Viagra that did not bear his name. Bond $25,000. He was stopped for a traffic violation on Nov. 6 on Beasley Mill Road near Magnolia.
*Kamie Jo Hefner, 31, of Dunn, possession of marijuana and paraphernalia in the form of a glass pipe, possession of about a half gram of methamphetamine, and possession of a scales to repackage a controlled substance. Bond $5,000. The car she was riding in was stopped during a routine license check on Nov. 3 on N.C. 50 near Faison. The other person in the car, Robert Stanley Kelly, 29, of Faison, was cited for possession of a small amount of marijuana.
The Duplin County Sheriff's Office's DICE team saturates different parts of the county when anything out of the ordinary is reported. DICE stands for Duplin Interstate Criminal Enforcement, because it works along I-40.
The DICE team members make routine traffic stops, and they're on the lookout for anything unusual.
The team made 18 arrests for driving while impaired last month.
"The DICE team has done an outstanding job," said Wallace during a news conference Wednesday morning at the Duplin County Sheriff's Office in Kenansville.
The DICE team members are Lt. Chris Smith, supervisor, and Deputies Jamie Rogers, Ray Maples, Lee Graham, Jeff Morrison and Elwood Garner.
