Commissioners return to light agenda

After a month off, the Wayne County Board of Commissioners reconvenes Tuesday with a light agenda.
The commissioners are scheduled to set the fee for a new service. The county plans to allow its environmental health inspectors to locate existing septic tanks and fields for property owners and developers.
This will help ensure that new construction does not infringe on or damage the septic system.
County Health Director James Roosen has suggested the fee be set at $50. Property owners would still have the option of having a private company do these surveys, Roosen told the commissioners.
Also Tuesday, the commissioners expect an update on the Clean Water Management Trust Fund project to buy land just north of Seymour Johnson Air Force Base.
The N.C. Coastal Land Trust has represented the county and city of Goldsboro in negotiating with landowners, and commissioners expect Tuesday to extend that contract.
Also Tuesday, the board is scheduled to do the following:
*Consider giving the county manager the authority to sell surplus equipment valued up to $20,000 without the commissioners' pre-approval.
*Proclaim Thursday as Veterans Day. County offices, including the landfill and convenience centers, will be closed.
*Hear a presentation on Keep Wayne County Beautiful.
*Set a public hearing on Tuesday, Nov. 23, to discuss Community Development Block Grant projects.
The commissioners will convene at 8 a.m. Tuesday for a briefing on the agenda. The meeting begins at 9 a.m. in the commissioners' meeting room, third floor, Wayne County Courthouse Annex, 224 E. Walnut St.
