Charity McPhail

Petty Officer 2nd Class Charity McPhail is serving aboard the Navy's newest sea warrior, USS Chung-Hoon, homeported in Hawaii.

The sailor, who enlisted in the Navy after graduating from Goldsboro High School in 1996, is among the ship's first 339 crew members.

As an operations specialist, she is responsible for navigating the ship by radar and identifying and tracking air and surface combatants on board.

Tamara Lewis

Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Tamara Lewis, daughter of Teresa Lewis of Dudley, recently embarked on a routine scheduled deployment to Guam while attached to Navy Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) Seven, the Seabees, homebased in Gulfport, Miss.

The unit specializes in advance base construction, battle damage repair, contingency engineering, humanitarian assistance and disaster recovery support around the world.

The sailor is a 1996 graduate of Eastern Wayne High School and a 2001 graduate of San Diego City College, San Diego, Calif..

Rodney Simmons

Army Reserve Pvt. Rodney D. Simmons has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training and participated in foot marches and field training exercises.

He is the son of Beverly Simmons of Goldsboro and is a 2004 graduate of Southern Wayne High School.

Agnes Smith

Agnes M. Smith has joined the United States Army under the Delayed Entry Program. She is scheduled to report for active duty on June 8 at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

She is a 2004 graduate of Clinton High School and is the daughter of Darlene Smith of Roseboro and James Owens of Kenansville.

Ryan McCormick

Ryan J. McCormick has graduated from the Army ROTC (Reserve Officers' Training Corps) Leader Development and Assessment Course, also known as "Operation Warrior Forge," at Fort Lewis, Tacoma, Wash.

The training provides professional training and evaluation for all cadets in the aspects of military life, administration and logistical support. The primary focus of the course is to develop and evaluate each cadet's officer potential as a leader.

McCormick is the son of Rick J. and Amy M. McCormick of Goldsboro and is a 2001 graduate of Rosewood High School, Goldsboro.

Casey Hollowell

Navy Seaman Casey D. Hollowell recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

During the eight-week program, Hollowell completed classroom study and participated in physical fitness classes.

Hollowell is a 2004 graduate of Southern Wayne High School and is the son of Julie A. and Alfred R. Hollowell of Goldsboro.

Jeremy Grimes

Army Pfc. Jeremy D. Grimes has deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom to engage in military operations involving U.S. and coalition forces.

The soldier is regularly assigned to one of the various camps and units of the 2nd Infantry Division, 8th U.S. Army based in South Korea.

The infantryman, is the son of James K. Grimes of Goldsboro and is a 2003 graduate of Eastern Wayne High School.
