Salvation Army Christmas
The Salvation Army will take applications next week from families who want to take part in the annual Christmas program for food and toys. Senior citizens will also be allowed to apply for food.
People should come to the Salvation Army's building, 610 N. William St., between 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 9, through Friday, Nov. 12.
Applicants need to bring picture ID; proof of income, such as pay stubs, verification of AFDC or food stamps eligibility; any regular monthly bills for October and November, including rent receipts, cable, phone and utility bills; and birth certificates and Social Security cards or Medicaid card/letter for any child living permanently in the residence.
Celebrating industry
The Wayne County Industry Celebration will be held Thursday at the Goldsboro Country Club.
The Economic Development Commission has scheduled local industry tours, beginning at 1 p.m. The route includes Boling Furniture in Mount Olive and Cooper-Bussmann, Reuel and Lemuel in Goldsboro.
A reception will be held at the country club, beginning at 5:30 p.m., followed by a dinner where the 2004 "Industry of the Year" and "Industrialist of the Year" will be announced.
The EDC plans this event in honor of the county's industries. Sponsors include the Goldsboro Committee of 100, the Mount Olive Committee of 100, utility allies, and local businesses.

Fair share finalist
Peggy Helms, an employee of Wayne Community College, has been selected as the ninth finalist in United Way's Fair Share Challenge.
To qualify for the two other weekly drawings to be eligible to win a brand new truck from Goldsboro Chrysler Dodge Jeep, a donor must contribute his fair share, which is one hour's pay per month or one percent of his annual salary to United Way of Wayne County.
Weekly drawings are held each Saturday through Nov. 13 at 10 a.m. at Goldsboro Jeep.
The final drawing will be held Nov. 20 when each of the 11 finalists pick a key in the order that they qualified. The finalist whose key starts the truck will win.
Dante lecture
The Foundation of Wayne Community College will offer a lecture course titled "Going to Hell: Rambles with Dante through Inferno."
Arts and Humanities Program Director Bill Brettmann will lead the four-week course. It will meet at 7 p.m. on Mondays starting Nov. 8 at the Wayne County Public Library on Ash Street in Goldsboro.
Cost for the course is $20 for individuals and $35 for couples. The textbook, Dorothy Sayers' translation of "The Divine Comedy: Hell," may be purchased in advance for $9.60 from the college's bookstore.
