MOC schedules alumni weekend

MOUNT OLIVE -- Hundreds of alumni are expected to return to their alma mater Nov. 19 to participate in Mount Olive College's Annual Alumni Homecoming Weekend.
The festivities will begin Friday morning at 7:30 with a Business Breakfast Briefing to be held in the Lois K. Murphy Regional Center. Dr. John Lingle will be the guest speaker. He will discuss "People Equity: An Innovative Approach to Managing and Measuring Human Capital." The cost is $15 per person. MOC business associates and one guest may attend free.
The annual alumni golf tournament will swing into action at Southern Wayne Country Club near Mount Olive. The super ball tournament will have a shotgun start at noon. The cost for the event will be $48.
At 12:30 p.m. the Science and Mathematics Alumni Luncheon hosted by the Henderson Science Club will meet in the Hennessee Room of the Lois K. Murphy Regional Center. The guest speaker will be Christian Waters, Piedmont region fisheries research coordinator for the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission's Division of Inland Fisheries. His presentation is entitled "Freshwater Fisheries Biology in North Carolina." Guests are invited to go through the cafeteria before the presentation begins. The cost is $4.50 per person.
The 39th Annual Pickle Classic Tournament will be held Friday and Saturday, Nov. 19 and 20, in College Hall. Friday night's tip-off begins at 6 p.m. with Lees-McRae vs. Newberry, followed by the MOC Trojans vs. Bluefield State University at 8 p.m.
The consolation game begins at 4:30 p.m. Saturday. The championship game is at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $8 in advance and cover all four games.
Children under 4 and MOC students with a student ID are admitted free. Also being held that evening, in College Hall is the class of 1989 reunion.
Also, the Henderson Science Club and the Recreation Majors Club are jointly hosting a Cystic Fibrosis 2K walk/5K run at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 20.
The Fourth Annual Criminal Justice Seminar on "Identity Theft Crisis" will begin at 10:45 a.m. in Rodgers Chapel.
A reunion brunch featuring the MOC Singers will be held at 11 a.m. in the Lois K. Murphy Regional Center followed by a dessert reception at 3 p.m. where alumni awards will be presented. Among those presentations will be the college's Alumnus of the Year. Class reunions for years '59, '64, '69, '74, '79, '84 and MOD will meet at noon on Saturday in the Hennessee Room of the Lois K. Murphy Regional Center.
Throughout the afternoon on Saturday there will be an art exhibit in Laughinghouse Hall, a travelogue about Antarctica with Julie Beck, and an estate-planning seminar.
An alumni basketball game in College Hall and a silent auction in the Lois K. Murphy Regional Center will take place at 3:15 p.m. Alumni from '94, '99, and '04 will be socializing at 6 p.m. in the hospitality room upstairs in College Hall.
The culmination of the Mount Olive College Homecoming Weekend will take place on Sunday morning with a memorial service at the Alumni Cross Walk at 10 followed by a worship service in Rodgers Chapel. A Sunday buffet will be served at 11:30 a.m. For reservations contact Dianne Riley. After the buffet there will be a final farewell for all alumni held in Hunt Lounge.
