Wine tasting for Habitat
The Healthabit store in Goldsboro will donate the proceeds from its 10th Annual Wine Tasting to Habitat for Humanity.
The wine tasting will be held from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Nov. 13 at Herman Park Center in Goldsboro.
Habitat is excited about the opportunity, says Habitat Director Beth Parrish.
Ms. Parrish said Habitat expects that the proceeds will enable the organization to build an additional house in Wayne County next year. Habitat built four houses in 2004 and plans to build five more in 2005.
Peace talk
The public is invited to attend a lecture on "Peace and Democracy in the Middle East: An Alternative Vision" by Akram Khater, associate professor of history and the director of international programs in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at N.C. State.
It will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 17, in Moffatt Auditorium at Wayne Community College. The presentation is a collaborative effort of the college and Wayne County public schools.
A native of Lebanon, Khater specializes in the social and cultural history of the Middle East. He has authored a number of books and articles. He also contributed the Middle East and North Africa section to "The World and Its People," a high school textbook.

No ghosts tonight in Duplin
Faison and Calypso ghosts and goblins will be on the prowl on Saturday night, not tonight.
A News-Argus story reporting that Wayne County trick-or-treaters would be out tonight rather than Sunday night had the hours right for the Duplin ghostly visitors, but the night was wrong.
They'll be roaming Saturday night. Those in Calypso will be out from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m., and those in Faison will start whenever they want to. But they will have to be back indoors by 8 p.m., because a curfew starts then.
Wayne County trick-or-treating is tonight from 6 to 8.
Jesse not coming
Former U.S. Sen. Jesse Helms will not be campaigning in Goldsboro Saturday for a Republican candidate.
Helms is scheduled to appear Saturday with Patrick Ballantine, but he will not be joining the Republican gubernatorial candidate until he arrives in Kinston.
Ballantine is still planning to greet people at Madison's Restaurant at 8:30 a.m. Saturday and at Feast in the East at the Wayne County Fairgrounds at 9:15 a.m.
WATCH needs H-E-L-P
The WATCH mobile clinic is so successful, it's wearing out its volunteers.
"We have so much traffic that the volunteers don't get a lunch break," Sissy Lee-Elmore, executive director of WATCH, told the board Wednesday.
Ms. Lee-Elmore said clerical volunteers are needed for the van, which travels around the county. Basic duties would include answering phones and scheduling patients.
"We would love to have people pick a day a month that they'll work," she said.
