FBI joins search for bank robber

The Federal Bureau of Investigation has joined Goldsboro police in the search for a man who robbed a Goldsboro bank.
The robber entered the New Century Bank at 425 N. Spence Ave. at about 1:20 p.m. Friday, displayed a handgun to a teller, demanded money, grabbed an undisclosed amount of cash and fled.
The robber was described as black, 6-feet tall with a thin build. He wore dark clothes, police said today.
Police and the FBI are examining a videotape from the bank's surveillance camera to determine the robber's identity, if possible.
"We have good leads that we're following up on," police Maj. Jay Memmelaar said today.
Investigator M.K. Horstmann was assigned to the case.
Anyone with information on the robbery was asked to call police at 705-6572 or Goldsboro-Wayne County Crime Stoppers at 735-2255. Callers may remain anonymous, and they may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000, if their information leads to an arrest.
The N.C. Bankers Association also is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and indictment of the person responsible for the robbery. Confidential information may be called in to 1-800-209-2293.
The bank also was robbed in May. A day later, Quentin Bryce Barnes, 18, of North George Street was arrested and charged with the crime. He pleaded guilty to a lesser offense, was released from custody for time served and put on probation.
