Scott Motor Co. Inc. of Goldsboro has been sold and is now Doug Henry Buick-Pontiac-GMC.

Doug Henry has been selling cars for 25 years and has two other dealerships, a Chevrolet, Buick, Pontiac, GMC store in Farmville, which opened in 1991; and a Chevrolet store in Tarboro, which opened in 1999.

He said he wanted to get into a larger market and this is the first month of operation under the new name. Henry said he is in the process of getting everything settled and plans to have the sign up soon.

Henry said he has been able to retain most of Scott Motor Co.'s employees.

"I am lucky to have such a great staff," he said.

Scott Motor Co. was founded in 1922 by Fulton Scott, the last of the old Goldsboro family-owned dealerships dating back to the early years of the 20th century. Several generations of Scotts were associated with the automobile business.

Henry purchased the business from Sterling Scott, the grandson of Fulton Scott and the son of Jack Scott. Sterling Scott purchased the dealership in 1990 and changed the name to Scott Motor Co.

Henry said they plan to have $10 million in inventory at all times and are known for having a large selection of new and used cars.

"We have a great business going," he said. "I'm excited about it."

The dealership is located on the U.S. 70 Bypass. The hours are from 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday, and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

There have been other changeovers in dealerships over the past few years.

The Goldsboro Nissan auto dealership was sold in September to the Deacon Jones dealership group. It is now named Deacon Jones Nissan. Deacon Jones also purchased the Capital Ford dealership in Goldsboro in October 2003. It is now named Deacon Jones Ford-Lincoln-Mercury. Deacon Jones also acquired the Smithfield Chevrolet-Jeep dealership in October 2003.
