Crime of the Week
The fatal shooting of Billy Joe "B.J." Gregory of 201 Hazelwood Drive near Dudley on Friday night has been chosen by Goldsboro-Wayne County Crime Stoppers as its latest "Crime of the Week."
Gregory was shot once in the chest at about 8:15 p.m. while he was alone in his home. A neighborhood canvass has yielded good information, detectives said. A white man also was seen running from the scene just after shots were fired.
Anyone with information on this murder or any other crime in Wayne County was asked to call Crime Stoppers at 735-2255. Callers may remain anonymous, and they may be eligible for cash rewards of up to $1,000, if their information leads to arrests in felony cases.
Stamps stolen
SEVEN SPRINGS -- About $2,565 worth of stamps -- in books and rolls -- was stolen between Sept. 15 and Monday, a Wayne County Sheriff's Office report said.
Postmaster Linda Wood told deputies that a post office employee said she had been robbed in mid-September but did not report the theft until the employee's drawer was checked last week.
According to the report, the employee said she was in a hurry to go to lunch and must have left the door unlocked. She said there were four or five customers in the office when she left. Upon returning, she said, she saw the door was unlocked, the key was in a drawer and an unknown amount of stamps were missing.
Two teens charged
Two teen-agers, already charged with similar crimes, were arrested Monday by Goldsboro police and charged with a vehicle break-in after an anonymous tip to Goldsboro-Wayne County Crime Stoppers.
David Jacob Lambert, 18, and Phillip Joseph Goff, 17, both of Daw Pate Road, Pikeville, were accused of breaking into a car in the 100 block of South Berkeley Boulevard and stealing property, Investigator Dale Foster said.
Both teens were charged with breaking and entering and larceny. Lambert's secured bond was set at an additional $5,000. Goff's secured bond was set at an additional $1,500.
The Wayne County Sheriff's Office assisted in the investigation.
Driver hurt in wreck
One driver was injured and damages were estimated at $14,000 Monday in two traffic collisions in Goldsboro, police reported.
*A driver was injured and damages were estimated at $5,000 at 8:20 a.m. Monday on Dr. M.L. King Jr. Expressway at the North George Street overpass. Mary Ann Moore, 37, of Greenville was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. Their conditions were not immediately available. Ms. Moore was charged with a safe-movement violation. The other driver was Lawrence Lee Gerald Jr., 46, of U.S. 117 Alternate, Dudley.
*A motorist was charged with reckless driving after his pickup truck backed into three cars in a parking lot in the 1800 block of Wayne Memorial Drive. Henri Herz Andrews III, 43, of Pineland Drive may have had a seizure, the report said. His bond was set at $5,000. The parked vehicles were registered to three rental agencies. Damages totaled $9,000.
Mowers stolen
Four riding lawn mowers and a white 1988 Ford F-250 truck were stolen from Aycock Tractor Co. at 304 S. Dr. M.L. King Jr. Expressway, Goldsboro police reported.
The thief had cut a chain from a fence to get inside. The two Grasshopper and two New Holland mowers were valued at $30,726, and the truck was valued at $4,000. A red tool box with tools, valued at $300, also was taken.
Police also are investigating these reports:
*A red, 20-foot utility trailer was stolen after a lock had been cut from a gate at Security Storage Co. at 106 S. Dr. M.L. King Jr. Expressway. The trailer was valued at $4,000.
*Four bottles of alcohol, soft drinks and $30 were stolen after a door was damaged at an apartment in the 1200 block of Courtyard Circle. The resident, S. Reeves, estimated the value of the property at $88.
*An unknown amount of money was stolen after a window and a coin-operated machine were damaged at a car wash on U.S. 70 East. Damage was put at $250.
Thefts
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*A window air conditioner was stolen and two doors were damaged at a vacant home in the 300 block of Durham Lake Road. The owner, Ronnie Williams of Dudley, said the air conditioner was worth $175.
*A DVD movie was stolen Monday after a door was damaged at a mobile home in the 100 block of Dawson Drive. The resident, C.M. Davis, put a $25 value on the DVD.
Student charged
A student at Belfast Academy was arrested Monday by Wayne County sheriff's deputies and charged with a felony drug offense.
Brandon Lee Williams, 17, of Chestnut Street, Fremont, was charged with possession with intent to sell marijuana on a school bus. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $2,000 secured bond.
Missing
A 15-year-old boy was reported missing for two weeks by his mother to Goldsboro police. Kenneth Edward "Junior" Mace of 1716 E. Holly St. was described as black, 5-feet-1 and 160 pounds with black hair, brown eyes and a light complexion.
When he was seen last at 8 a.m. Oct. 4, Mace was wearing a T-shirt, blue jeans and sneakers. Anyone with information on his location was asked to call police at 705-6572.
