EWHS band sweeps competition

The Eastern Wayne High band won the Grand Champion title and earned seven first-place trophies during a competition last weekend in Bertie County.
The event was for 1-A, 2-A and 3-A high school bands. Eastern Wayne competed against 2-A schools from Halifax, Hampton and Bertie counties as well as Weldon city schools. The 2-A class is made up of 65 playing band members; Eastern Wayne has playing 57 members and a total of 85 members. Eastern Wayne took first place in its division in all of its classes, drum majors, music, general effect, dance line, majorette, flag line, and percussion.Band director Tyrone Wagner said the clean sweep of first place finishes might be a first in the school's history.
