Cover girl

Here she is -- the cover girl for the Wayne County Humane Society's 2005 calendar!

Trixie, a Pomeranian, is the pet of Ashley Witt of Goldsboro. Miss Witt was the highest bidder in the WCHS 2005 calendar cover auction.

The calendar features pictures of local pets and costs $5. It can be purchased from local Humane Society members and at Pet Supplies Plus and Healthabit.

Proceeds will be used to support the Humane Society's programs.

Book signing

The Wayne County Museum will hold a book reading and signing on Sunday with Susan Walker.

Ms. Walker, the author of "101 Borden Street," has published a new book called "Maura's Trunk."

She and authors Sue Ellen Frye and Jewel Dean Suddath will be reading excerpts from their books and discussing them from 2 p.m. until 4:30 p.m.

The museum is on William Street across from the Goldsboro Post Office. For more information, call 734-5023.

Bloodmobile

The Wayne County Chapter of the American Red Cross will hold a Blood-mobile Friday from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base Community Center. Donors will receive a coupon for a free car wash.

Quail Unlimited

The annual Wayne Chapter of Quail Unlimited's sponsors banquet will be held Friday beginning at 6 p.m. at Lanetree Golf Course.
