Five receive Scout fellowships

MOUNT OLIVE -- Boy Scout President Jim Daniels presented five new James E. West Fellowships to local Scout volunteers during a recent executive board meeting in Mount Olive.
James E. West was the first chief executive of the Boy Scouts for over three decades.
A local Boy Scout volunteer made a gift to the Tuscarora Council trust fund on behalf of each of the following Scout leaders:
*J.R. Everett is a member of Goldsboro Troop 11 committee and scout leader for over 35 years. He started in Pack 11 when his son joined the pack in 1968. Everett has been a member of the district committee as camporee cook for many years. He is an active member of the Arrow of the Arrow and has attended every trip to Kerr Lake since joining the troop.
*Rick Pridgen is assistant scoutmaster of Goldsboro Troop 11 and is currently Boy Scout Roundtable Commissioner for Torhunta District. He chaired the construction of the Lee Kaylor Dance Arbor at Camp Tuscarora and is on the Wayne County School Board. He has donated thousands of dollars worth of fireworks for the Order of the Arrow and Camp Tuscarora.
*Kenny Minshew is assistant scoutmaster of Rosewood Troop 258 and serves as Order of the Arrow Lodge advisor. The Order of the Arrow is a Boy Scout national honor camping society that gives older scouts increased areas of interest in addition to their troops. It is based on American Indian culture events. He also serves on the executive board of the Tuscarora Council. He served as Contingent Scoutmaster for the 2001 National Scout Jamboree at Ft. A.P. Hill, Va.
*Doug Wiggins Jr. is an active scout volunteer in the Mount Olive area and serves as part of the Mormon Church leadership in the Goldsboro Stake. He is a 1978 Eagle Scout from Wilson. He attended the Boy Scout National meeting in Chicago, Ill., in May, 2004.
*Doug Wiggins Sr. is owner of Red Hill Distributor in Mount Olive and has served as bishop for the Mormon Church in Mount Olive. He was scoutmaster of Troop 756 in Mount Olive from 1975-80. He has four children and 12 grandchildren, and six of the grandchildren are registered Scouts.
