Board praises
The board of trustees at Wayne Community College honored two legislators and two former board members Tuesday.
Dr. Edward Wilson, president of the college, presented plaques to state Rep. Louis Pate and Sen. John Kerr. The legislators were recognized by the N.C. Association of Community College Presidents for supporting community colleges.
Board Chairman Tommy Jarrett recognized two of his predecessors, Ray Rouse III and Cleve Paul.
Rouse served on the board for seven years, including time as vice chairman and chairman. Paul was appointed in 1998, was vice chairman under Rouse and then board chairman in 2003-2004.
Jarrett said the board would miss the expertise of Rouse and Paul, especially during the college's building program. "We really hated to lose them and will miss their advice, insight and what these two gentlemen brought to the board," he said.
Fair safety
The Wayne Regional Agricultural Fair will receive a safety certificate Thursday from the North Carolina Department of Labor.
The certificate will recognize the fair's participation in the new rider safety program. Department officials are kicking off the program aimed at helping young fairgoers avoid ride dangers. Officials are helping provide safety material to children in the Goldsboro area.
