Teen charged with shooting
A Goldsboro teen-ager was arrested Monday by Goldsboro police and charged with three felony and three misdemeanor charges in connection with a shooting incident.
Quinton Swinson, 16, of Fourth Street was charged with discharge of a weapon into occupied property, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill while inflicting serious injury and possession of a weapon of mass destruction. He also was charged with misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon, carrying a concealed weapon and resisting arrest.
Swinson was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of an $85,000 secured bond. His first court appearance was scheduled for today.
Swinson was accused of firing a weapon Sept. 21 into a car on Maple Street, police Investigator Trey Ball said. A passenger, Emilio Creswell, 16, of South Best Street, was wounded. He was released after emergency-room treatment at Wayne Memorial Hospital. The driver was identified as Barney Alston, 18, of Westview Court.
Two hurt in wrecks
Two drivers were injured and damages were estimated at $31,500 in four recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, officers reported.
*Damages were estimated at $12,000 in a two-car collision at 10:25 a.m. Monday at East Ash and North Daisy streets, Goldsboro police said. One driver, Carrie Durham Thompson, 74, of Ditchbank Road, was charged with a safe-movement violation. Police said Ms. Thompson's southbound car collided with a westbound auto driven by Antonio Ray Fabis, 27, of East Holly Street.
*A driver was injured and the car that he was driving was demolished in a wreck at 5:58 a.m. Thursday on U.S. 117 Alternate near Sleepy Creek Road, the Highway Patrol said. Danny Ray Rivers, 21, of Eagle Ridge Drive, Dudley, was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. The car, valued at $3,000, had run off the right side, struck a ditch and a driveway culvert and overturned. No charges have been filed.
*A truck driver for Goldsboro Milling Co. was injured and damage was estimated at $10,000 in a wreck at 7:48 a.m. Wednesday on Stevens Mill Road near Charles Massey Road, the Highway Patrol said. Juan Ponce Avila, 34, of Indian Springs Road, Seven Springs, was released after emergency-room treatment. He was charged with driving left of center after the hog truck ran off the left side in a curve and overturned. Damage was set at $10,000.
*Damage was estimated at $6,500 in a two-vehicle crash at 7:30 a.m. Sept. 20 at U.S. 117 and Belfast Road, the Highway Patrol said. One driver, Judy M. Allen, 49, of Buck Swamp Road, was charged with a yield violation at a stop sign. The report said her pickup collided with a southbound sport utility vehicle driven by Leon Earl Toler, 51, of Grand Street, Pikeville.
Investigations
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*A laptop computer, 48 compact discs, a man's clothing, boots and shoes, and a duffel bag were stolen Monday from a home in the 1800 block of Pikeville-Princeton Road, sheriff's deputies said. The owner, Joel Dean Hemenway II of Jacksonville, put a $3,433 value on his property. No sign of forced entry was reported.
*Thieves broke open a drink machine between Friday and Monday at Wayne Auto Salvage at 1911 U.S. 117 South and stole an undetermined amount of money, deputies said. Damage was set at $500.
*An Amana heat pump was stolen between Thursday and Monday from a home in the 100 block of Country Road, deputies said. The owner, Roland Oscar Reed of Sneads Ferry, said it was worth $3,500.
*A crystal chandelier was stolen from a rental home in the 200 block of Watery Branch Church Road, deputies said. The owner, Douglas Sauls of Zebulon, put a $2,500 value on it.
*About $1,800 worth of plywood was stolen between Sunday and Monday from a home in the 100 block of Londonderry Drive, deputies said. The plywood is owned by Dallas Woodrow Price of Pikeville.
*Two dressers, a push mower, a television and four plants were stolen between Sept. 18 and Monday from a home in the 1300 block of N.C. 581 North, deputies said. The resident, Ashley Jarrett, said the property was valued at $940.
Vehicle thefts
Wayne County law-enforcement officers are investigating these vehicle thefts:
*A gray, two-door 1988 Toyota truck was stolen Monday from a parking lot at 301 Stevens Mill Road, Goldsboro police said. The owner, Newby Glenn Price of Fremont, had a let a friend take the truck to her work place. The truck was valued at $1,500.
*A red Honda four-wheeler was stolen between Saturday and Sunday from a disabled pickup truck in the Winn-Dixie parking lot in Mar Mac, sheriff's deputies said. The owner, John Tracy Crumpler of Pikeville, put a $1,000 value on the four-wheeler.
*A black Tomas scooter was stolen Monday from the Wayne County Library parking lot at 1001 E. Ash St., police said. The owner, Robert Byron Bristol of Princeton, said the scooter was worth $300.
Man faces more charges
A 34-year-old man faces three more felony charges after an investigation by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.
Russell Stephen Ward of Berryridge Road, Pikeville, already was being held in the Wayne County Jail on other charges filed July 26. He was charged Monday by Detective Sgt. Tammy Odom with breaking and entering, larceny and possession of stolen goods in an unrelated case. Ward also was held on an outstanding arrest order for a worthless check. His additional secured bonds were set at $5,500.
Missing
A 15-year-old Goldsboro boy was reported missing Monday to Goldsboro police. James Darden of 2513 E. Elm St. was described as black, 6-feet and 281 pounds with black hair, brown eyes and a dark complexion.
When he was seen last at 4:10 p.m. Monday, he was wearing a green jersey, blue-jean shorts, black shoes and a green hat, the report said. Anyone with information on his location was asked to call police at 705-6572.
