Markita Chanel Rowe, a contestant in the 2005 Alpha Kappa Alpha Debutante Pageant, will present a scholarship fund-raising choral concert on Sunday, Oct. 10.

The concert, at 5 p.m. in the sanctuary of Madison Avenue Baptist Church, 300 S. Madison Avenue, will feature the Kinston-Lenoir Community Chorale of Kinston. The chorale was founded in 1992, under the direction of Vincent Bryant, who has served as director and choirmaster since its founding.

The concert will include works by J.S. Bach, Dr. Roland Carter, John Ness Beck, Richard Smallwood and others in an array of classical, gospel and contemporary pieces.

Benjamin D. Johnson of Goldsboro will serve as organist, and Sedatrius Brown Boxley will provide piano accompaniment.

The 60-member chorale performs annual Christmas and spring concerts, as well as concerts throughout the state from September through June.

On Nov. 9, members of the chorale will travel to New York City where they will join about 150 musicians from around the United States in a Residency Chorus. They will perform Mozart's Coronation Mass (K317) at Carnegie Hall, accompanied by the New England Symphonic Ensemble.

Two Wayne County residents, Hilda B. Rouse of Goldsboro and Ernestine Washington of Mount Olive, are newcomers to the group. Mrs. Rouse sings alto, and Ms. Washington is a member of the soprano section.

Miss Rowe is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Paul (Ann) Rowe Jr. She is a junior at Goldsboro High School where she is a varsity cheerleader and is member of the Marching Grand Flag Guard, the Student Government Association, Future Business Leaders of America.

She is on the National Honor Roll, is a member of Who's Who Among American High School Students and is a recipient of the USA National English Merit Award.

She and her family are members of Saint Mark Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ.

Her sponsors are sorority members Angeline Holden, Damesha Smith and Doris B. Smith.

Donations to the scholarship effort may be sent to the Markita Rowe Scholarship Concert Fund, P.O. Box 506, Goldsboro, N.C. 27533.
