Fire starts in Amirian's building

An electrical failure appeared to have caused a fire at a downtown Goldsboro building and spread to two other buildings this morning.
The fire started at Amirian's Fine Art and Framing shop at 107-109 N. Center St. It then spread to the second flood of 109 N. Center St., also owned by Amirian's, and then to 111 N. Center St., which is used by Waynesborough Furniture for storage.
Smoke was visible from the buildings but no flames. Four Goldsboro fire engines, a ladder truck and a command car were on the scene.
By 11:30 a.m., it appeared that firefighters had the blaze under control.
This is the second fire to strike the frame shop. In 1995, the shop was nearly destroyed at 132 E. Walnut St. That building, which was 100 years old, was torn down.
Amirian's was later moved to Center Street and extensive renovations were made. One of the buildings was once Snypes Department Store. The Waynesborough storage building was once the Variety Theater.
