Stage Struck auditions
Stage Struck is looking for at least 25 Wayne County school children in grades 1 through 12 to perform in "Best Christmas Pageant Ever."
Director John Stutts of Center Stage will hold the auditions for the Stage Struck show at 4:30 p.m. on Monday at the Paramount Theater.
Although 25 are needed, the show's director can find a place for up to 60 children.
Park to be dedicated
The town of Seven Springs will hold a dedication ceremony at 10 a.m. Saturday in the playground of the Seven Springs Community Park.
Town officials started building the park in 2000 with an $18,250 grant from Smart Start and received a $47,500 matching grant from the state Department of Parks and Recreation the following year.
They expected to finish the job in a year, but the paperwork wasn't finished until this spring. Town officials say that's because it took many fund-raisers and donations, one for $20,000, to raise the local match required for the grant.
Tax volunteers needed
The AARP in Wayne County is seeking volunteers to help elderly and low-income people prepare their 2004 income taxes.
The service helped about 500 people in the Goldsboro area last winter.
Tax assistance will be available at the Wayne County Public Library on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. during February, March and through April 13. Volunteers can work one or both days each week.
Only basic personal returns will be prepared, and training in January will qualify volunteers.

Iraq 101
The public is invited to a noon lecture and discussion on "Iraq 101" on Wednesday, Oct. 6, at Wayne Community College.
Dr. Sarah Shields, associate professor of history at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, will present at the "lunch-and-learn." It is the fourth of eight such activities made possible by a "By the People: America in the World" grant funded by MacNeil/Lehrer Productions.
The event will be held noon to 2 p.m. in Room 145 of the Dogwood Building on campus. Participants are encouraged to bring their lunches, and the college will provide beverages and cookies.

Bloodmobile
The Wayne County Chapter of the American Red Cross will have a Bloodmobile on Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Wayne Memorial Hospital. Donors will receive a coupon for a free car wash.
