The Foundation of Wayne Community College started its annual campus fund drive Tuesday with a lunch for more than 300 of the college's faculty and staff members.
The meal was donated by Boondoggle's Family Restaurant, "People's Choice Award" winner at the United Way of Wayne County's 2003 Taste of Wayne event. The goal of the campus campaign is 100 percent participation from faculty and staff.
The foundation's 2004-05 community fund drive will start Oct. 20. The foundation board hopes to top last year's drive and set a goal of $300,000 for this year.
It will also strive to make its golf tournament more successful, exceeding the $50,000 proceeds from this year's golf tournament. The 2005 tournament is set for June 14 and 15 at Lane Tree Golf Course.
The foundation raises and disperses funds for scholarships for students at the college, provides funding for innovative campus projects, and offers cultural programs for the community. It awarded 143 scholarships worth more than $76,000 for the fall semester.
