Man kidnapped;
van stolen
A Goldsboro man was kidnapped before dawn today by four men and his van was stolen and wrecked in Duplin County, according to a Wayne County Sheriff's Office report.
Salvador Aldivar Rodriguez, 29, of Ditchbank Road told deputies that the kidnappers approached him at about 11 p.m. at his home and asked for a ride because their car had a flat tire.
Rodriguez refused, and the kidnappers returned to their car, pulled out firearms and demanded he go with them, the report said. They went to Spring Creek Elementary School and dropped him off. Rodriguez then called authorities.
The van was found abandoned in a ditch on Summerlins Crossroads Road near Kenansville, the report said.
The robbers were described as four young black men who wore white shirts over black shirts and jeans.
3 men charged
in storage break-ins
Three men were arrested Monday after a joint investigation by Wayne County sheriff's detectives and Goldsboro police. They were charged with multiple felony crimes in connection with break-ins at mini-storage businesses.

Mack McCuiston "Buddy" Carter, 45, of O'Berry Road, Mount Olive, was charged with three counts each of breaking and entering and larceny. He was held in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $125,400 secured bond.
Carter already was jailed on other charges in lieu of a $150,000 secured bond.
Larry Keith Daughtry, 44, and Philip Eugene Evans, 18, both of Webber Lane, were charged with three counts each of breaking and entering and larceny. Each was jailed in lieu of a $30,000 secured bond.
Sheriff's Detective Sgt. Shawn Harris and police Investigator Dale Foster led the investigation.
3 face charges
in motorcycle theft
A young man and two teen-agers now face felony charges in connection with the theft of a motorcycle in July from a home on Ebenezer Church Road.
Edward Thomas Skrovan, 22, of Williford Road, Princeton, and Eric Lee Moore, 17, of Smithfield, were accused of stealing the motorcycle, Detective Sgt. Tony Morris said. Each was charged with larceny.
Skrovan was held in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of secured bonds totaling $35,000. Moore was jailed in lieu of a $7,000 secured bond.
Joseph Anthony Aumen, 16, of Smithfield also was charged with possession of the stolen motorcycle. He was jailed in lieu of a $8,000 secured bond.
Aumen was arrested by Johnston County sheriff's deputies who responded to a domestic dispute in his home. The stolen bike had been used in several Wayne County break-ins, detectives said. It was returned to its owner.
Skrovan also had been charged with three felony counts each of breaking and entering and larceny from Eastern Carolina Athletic Park on Buck Swamp Road in July.
A 14-year-old boy from Princeton also was arrested by Morris and Detective Sgt. Rick Farfour and charged in a juvenile petition with three felony counts each of breaking and entering and larceny in crimes at the ballpark. He was not identified because of his age.
Eight hurt in wrecks
Eight people were injured and damages were estimated at $72,300 in nine recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, the Highway Patrol reported.
*A sport utility vehicle was demolished in a wreck Sunday on Dobbersville Road near Britt Road, the Highway Patrol said. The SUV, valued at $8,900, ran off the right side, struck a ditch, spun around and stopped off the road. It was registered to Daniel Garcia of Liddell Road, Seven Springs.
*A car was demolished in a wreck at 11:01 a.m. Sunday on Wayne Memorial Drive near Saulston Road, the Highway Patrol. The driver, Warren Lee Dudley, 22, of Cella Street, was neither injured nor charged after the car ran off the right side, struck a mail box and stopped in a driveway culvert. The 1983 Jaguar was valued at $5,000.
*Three people were injured and damages were estimated at $11,000 in a two-vehicle collision at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at New Hope and Miller's Chapel roads, the Highway Patrol said. An eastbound driver, Teresa V. Godwin, 43, of Kinston, and a northbound driver, Samantha Ann Basden, 20, of East New Hope Road, and her passenger, Matthew Overman, 22, of Gurley Dairy Road, Pikeville, were treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. Ms. Basden was charged with a stop-sign violation.
*Damages were estimated at $7,000 in a two-vehicle crash at 3:30 p.m. Friday on Faro Road near Lindell Road, the Highway Patrol said. One driver, Shakita Laurena Bynum, 25, of Stantonsburg, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end crash. The other motorist was identified as Mary H. Croom, 38, of Davis Mill Road, Fremont.
*A driver lost control of a southbound car at about 5:50 a.m. Wednesday on U.S. 117 near Country Club Road and it struck the cable guard rail, the Highway Patrol said. The motorist drove the car about a half-mile before stopping it on the shoulder and leaving. The car, valued at $8,000, was demolished. It was registered to Shawn Edwin Holibaugh of Bladestone Drive, Pikeville. Damage to the cable was set at $300.
*Damages were estimated at $8,500 in a three-vehicle collision at 11:47 a.m. Sept. 7 at U.S. 70 and Perkins Mill Road, the Highway Patrol said. One driver, Doris J. Pate, 77, of Rosewood Drive, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end collision. The other motorists were identified as Horace Beecher Phillips, 77, of Kinston and Randy Wayne Wallace, 54, of Four Oaks.
*Four people were injured in a one-vehicle crash at 11:24 p.m. Sept. 7 on Antioch Road near Bartlett Road, the Highway Patrol said. The driver, Larry Leonza Best, 27, of Beal Street, and his passengers, Christeena Smith, 16, of West Lockhaven Drive, Geneva Phillips, 16, of Woodside Circle and Rechard Croom, 15, of Carla Ann Drive, Pikeville, were released after emergency-room treatment. Best was charged with improper equipment. The sport utility vehicle ran off the left side in a sharp curve, struck a driveway culvert and overturned. Damage was fixed at $8,000.
*A driver was injured and her car was demolished in a wreck at 3 a.m. Sept. 6 on Daw Pate Road near Stoney Creek Church Road, the Highway Patrol said. Christy Lynn Nagy, 18, of N.C. 581 South was listed today in stable condition at Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. She was charged with suspicion of driving while impaired and exceeding a safe speed after her car ran off the right side, struck a ditch and overturned. The car was valued at $6,800.
*Damage was set at $8,800 in a one-vehicle crash at 11:30 p.m. Sept. 6 on Davis Mill Road near Aycock Church Road, the Highway Patrol said. The driver, Andrew Jackson Parrish, 24, of Old Smithfield Road, was charged with suspicion of driving while impaired and reckless driving. The SUV that Parrish was driving ran off the left side, struck a ditch and overturned.
Candle started fire
A candle left burning in a bedroom was blamed Monday as the cause of a fire that damaged a home at 1006 S. Claiborne St., a Goldsboro fire official said today.
When firefighters answered the 9:40 a.m. call, they found "heavy smoke showing from the structure," Assistant Fire Chief Gary Whaley said. "The fire was quickly extinguished, but extensive salvage and overhaul was required. It also took a while to finish the investigation."
Damage was estimated at $10,000 to the home and $5,000 to the contents.
The home, owned by Robert Brown, was valued at $135,000. Contents were valued at $92,000, Whaley said.
Sixteen firefighters responded with three engines, a ladder truck and a command car. They needed an hour and 29 minutes to put out the fire, investigate the cause and finish salvage work.
Investigations
Wayne County law-enforcement officers are investigating these reports:
*About $40 worth of gasoline and $15 in change were stolen between Sunday and Monday from Southern Wayne Country Club, sheriff's deputies said. The thief also damaged two vending machines, security lights and two fence locks and went through a filing cabinet. Damage was set at $1,604.
*Five gold chains, a stereo system, a compact disc player and a video cassette recorder were stolen Monday from a home in the 100 block of Colonel Warrick Drive, deputies said. The resident, Woodrow Smith Jr., put a $2,400 value on the stolen property.
*A jumper cable box was stolen between Friday and Monday after a window was smashed at Thompson Enterprises at 315 S. George St., Goldsboro police said. The thief also damaged a truck door. The stolen property was valued at $50. Damage was put at $150.
*A white 1996 Ford truck was stolen between Saturday and Monday from a sweet potato field off Club Knolls Road, deputies said. The owner, Jose Perez Lopez of Dudley, did not put a value on the truck.
Two men charged
Two 50-year-old men who stole a lawn tractor from a Goldsboro store were arrested after a witness followed the suspects' getaway vehicle and called in their location to authorities.
James Larry Woodard and Michael Hooker, who did not reveal home addresses, were charged with felony larceny and misdemeanor property damage. They were placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of $3,500 secured bonds.
An employee at Tractor Supply Co. at 2901 Cashwell Drive told police that he had seen two men cut the security cable on Sunday, load the 18.5-horsepower Huskee lawn tractor on a truck and drive away.
The suspects were stopped about 20 minutes later by officers on U.S. 70, west of N.C. 581. The lawn tractor, valued at $1,300, was recovered, but it had sustained about $200 in damages during the theft, the report said.
Marijuana found
Eight marijuana plants have been seized in northern Wayne County by sheriff's officers. The plants have an estimated street value at maturity of $19,200. Two D-shift patrol officers, Cpl. Kenneth Lupton and Deputy Steve Howell, assisted by Fremont police Sgt. Wayne Schwark, found the plants.
Missing
Two teen-aged girls have bee reported missing by relative to Goldsboro police.
*Jamie Lakisha Grant, 13, of 1702 Courtyard Circle was described as black, 5-feet-6 and 131 pounds with brown hair, brown eyes and a light complexion. When she was seen last at 7 p.m. Friday, she was wearing a black shirt, blue jeans and black shoes.
*Jasmine Jona Greenfield, 14, of 2003 Courtyard Circle was described as black, 5-feet-9 and 304 pounds with black hair, brown eyes and a dark complexion. When she was seen last at 7 a.m. Monday, she was wearing a white T-shirt, blue pants, pink and white shoes and a green hooded coat.
Anyone with information on the location of either girl was asked to call police at 705-6572.
