Edward Edwards

Air Force Airman Edward J. Edwards has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

During the six weeks of training, the airman studied Air Force related subjects, performed drill and ceremony marches, and received intensive physical training.

In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

The airman is the son of Inez Baldwin of Goldsboro and is a 2003 graduate of Southern Wayne High School.

Rodrigo Saldivar

Marine Corps Cpl. Rodrigo Saldivar, son of Graciela Pedroza of California and Hilario Saldivar of Mount Olive, has been mobilized and placed on active duty in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Cpl. Saldivar's company will join other units from 8th Tank Battalion that are being activated to provide security for U.S. military facilities and personnel in Djibouti, Africa.

A 1999 graduate of Southern Wayne High School, he joined the Marine Corps in 1999.

Melisa Jewett

Melisa A. Jewett has joined the United States Army and reported to Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C., for basic training on Sept. 8.

She is the daughter of Mark Jewett of Goldsboro.

Cecil Hinton Jr.

Navy Seaman Recruit Cecil A. Hinton Jr. was recently promoted to his current rank upon graduation from recruit training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

Hinton received the early promotion for outstanding performance during all phases of the training cycle.

He is the son of Cecil A. Hinton of Goldsboro and Ruth L. Hinton of New Haven, Conn., and is a 2004 graduate of Southern Wayne High School.

Lewis Edwards

Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Lewis Edwards, assigned to the guided missile destroyer USS Hopper homeported in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, recently reunited with Expeditionary Strike Group (ESG) 3 after conducting training exercises in the Navy's U.S. 7th Fleet area of responsibility.

Ports of call included the Kingdom of Tonga; Hong Kong, China; Phuket, Thailand; and Singapore.

Edwards is the son of Lewis and Della M. Edwards of Goldsboro and is a 1989 graduate of Southern Wayne Senior High School.

Zeddie Cromartie

Senior Airman Zeddie I. Cromartie, son of Alton Cromartie of Seven Springs, has been assigned to the 916th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, a unit of the 916th Air Refueling Wing, the Air Force Reserve tanker unit at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base.

Working with the 916th AMSX, Cromartie will be an electrical and environmental apprentice, maintaining all electric wiring components and heating and cooling pressures of the KC-0135R Stratotankers.

He is a 1994 Graduate of Southern Wayne High School, a 1995 graduate of American River College, Sacramento, and a 1997 graduate of Wayne Community College. He is employed with Hertz Corp. in Raleigh as a General Motors auto technician.

Caleb French

Army Pfc. Caleb C. French has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga.

During the eight weeks of training, the soldier received training in military related subjects and participated in field exercises.

The private is the son of Clayton C. French of Goldsboro.

Jimmy Williamson

Army Pvt. Jimmy S. Williamson has graduated from the light-wheel vehicle mechanic advanced individual training (AIT) course at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

The private was trained to perform maintenance, troubleshoot, and repair wheeled vehicles and related mechanical components.

He is the son of Kimberly R. and Charles K. Williamson of Mount Olive and is a 2002 graduate of North Duplin Junior Senior High School, Calypso.
