A 22-year-old man from Dudley has been indicted by the Wayne County Grand Jury on charges of firing into his family's mobile home and wounding a relative.

Quanta Keneil Garner of Jenny Lane had been wanted by authorities for more than two months since the May 27 shooting. He was arrested Aug. 17 during a traffic stop in Norfolk, Va.

Garner was indicted on eight charges of discharging a firearm into occupied property, two charges of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Garner was accused of firing a weapon into a home on Jenny Lane and wounding his uncle, Lonnie Garner. The uncle was treated for his injury and later released from a hospital.

Two other mobile homes in the same park also were damaged by gunfire, officers said.

Garner also was charged as a habitual felon. If he is convicted of a fourth felony, then his sentence would be lengthened significantly.

Garner is the brother of Terence Garner, who was convicted of robbing a finance company near Princeton. When new evidence was found, the conviction was vacated and the charges against Terence Garner were dismissed by the Johnston County district attorney.

The grand jury handed up 70 true bills during its monthly meeting. It could not act on two bills, because the arresting officers were not present.

Twenty-four indictments were returned on such property crimes as burglary, breaking and entering, larceny and possession of stolen goods.

Eleven people were indicted on drug charges. Nine were indicted on assault charges, and nine more were indicted on such fraud charges as forgery, uttering, embezzlement, false present and larceny by an employee.

Seven indictments were handed up on sex offenses, four on weapons violations, two each on robbery and traffic charges and one on a burning charge. Three others were indicted as habitual felons.

Several defendants were indicted on charges in more than one crime category.
