The Goldsboro Nissan auto dealership has been sold to the Deacon Jones dealership group.
Effective Sept. 1, Goldsboro Nissan, along with its management and staff, have become part of Deacon Jones, with operational control transferred. The actual change of ownership is scheduled to occur within the next few weeks, according to a news release from Deacon Jones. The business will be named Deacon Jones Nissan.
"The Goldsboro Nissan dealership has been owned and operated by Bill Buchanan and he has assembled a solid group of employees who built a reputation of excellence and a dealership that is well managed and operated," a Deacon Jones spokesman said.
"This makes the acquisition especially attractive because the management and staff stay in place so the customer base and surrounding community can continue to work with the folks they are familiar with."
Joining the dealership is Bill Henderson, who previously worked in management for Deacon Jones Buick-Pontiac in Smithfield and will take over as general manager.
The spokesman said there are no plans to make any substantial changes to the Nissan dealership. The plans will mainly be cosmetic, such as improvements for sales and service as well as some changes later that may be required to meet manufacturer specifications and remaining lease obligations.
The Deacon Jones family owns and operates Deacon Jones Auto Park in Smithfield with its General Motors line of Cadillac, GMC, Buick and Pontiac, Chrysler and Dodge brands; The Smithfield Chevrolet-Jeep dealership in Smithfield; the Deacon Jones Kia dealership in Goldsboro; the Deacon Jones Clearance Center lot in Princeton; the Deacon Jones Chevrolet dealership in Kenly; and the Deacon Jones Ford-Lincoln-Mercury dealership in Goldsboro.
Buchanan said in an advertisement that he met with several potential buyers, but Deacon Jones was the kind of person he could feel fully comfortable with doing business with, the ad said.
