Addison in 'Ragtime'
Matthew Addison of Goldsboro has been cast in the North Carolina Theatre production of "Ragtime" starring Broadway's Norm Lewis, Julia Murney and Tony Award-winning actor Michael Rupert.
Addison, 20, is a graduate of Eastern Wayne High School and is pursuing a professional acting career. This is his second show with the N.C. Theatre after being cast as Walter in the theater's Kids On Broadway production of "Chess" in April.
Show dates for Ragtime are Sept. 11 through 19 at the BTI Center's Memorial Auditorium in Raleigh. Student preview night is Friday and tickets are $10 for full-time students and educators with a valid student or teacher ID. More information can be obtained at www.nctheatre.com or 1-919-831-6950.
Free business seminar
The Business and Industry Center of Wayne Community College will offer the free seminar "Insurance Planning for My Business" on Sept. 21.
The seminar will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. in Room 145 of the Dogwood Building on campus.
It is designed to help participants define risks and compare the features and benefits of insurance and retirement products for small business owners and employees. Presenter Danny Brown will discuss options available to protect a business in the owner's absence, including a survivor income plan, key-employee insurance and buy-and-sell agreement coverage.

U.S. leadership
The public is invited to a noontime lecture and discussion on "America and The World: The Challenge To Lead."
Dr. Jeffrey M. Elliot, professor of political science and director of international programs at N.C. Central University, will lead the "lunch-and-learn" event on Thursday, Sept. 23, at Wayne Community College.
It is the third of eight such activities made possible by a "By the People: America in the World" grant funded by MacNeil/Lehrer Productions.
The event will be held noon to 2 p.m. in Room 145 of the Dogwood Building on campus. Participants are encouraged to bring their lunches, and the college will provide beverages and cookies.
