Essay contest planned

"What Freedom of Speech Means to Me" is the theme for the Fleet Reserve Association's annual essay contest.
The contest is open to all students in grades 7-12 in the Wayne, Nash, Edgecombe and Wilson schools systems, private schools in the area, and to any other qualified students who desire to participate.
A student may submit only one essay, no longer than 350 words and legibly written or typed on one side of paper. Entrants are to include their name, address, school grade and their own or a parent's Social Security number on a separate sheet.
All entries must be submitted in accordance with school schedules or postmarked no later than Dec. 1, and sent to Les Zavadil, Chairman, Americanism Committee, Tar River Branch 204, 224 Foxhall Drive, Rocky Mount, N.C. 27804.
Prizes will be awarded on the local, regional and national levels. Winners at each grade level will receive certificates of appreciation from the Fleet Reserve Association and U.S. Savings Bonds ranging from $50 to $15,000.
Students entering the contest will be sponsored by the Tar River Branch 204, and do not have to be related to a Fleet Reserve Association member.
