Teens charged
in auto break-in
Two teen-agers were arrested before dawn today by Goldsboro police and charged with breaking into a car and stealing property. The arrests occurred before the owner reported the crime.
Justin David Smith, 19, of Sandhill Road, Dudley, and Sidney Adam Wade, 19, of Kinston were arrested at about 1:25 a.m. at Wal-Mart, where they tried to buy items with someone else's credit card, the police report said. One tried to conceal a camera and leave without paying, the report said.
About 40 minutes later, a woman told police that someone had broken into her car and had stolen property, including her credit card and $180, and items belonging to two other people.
Smith and Wade were charged with felony breaking and entering of a vehicle, larceny, possession of stolen goods and obtaining property by false pretense, as well as misdemeanor carrying a concealed weapon and larceny.
Smith was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $30,000 secured bond. Wade was jailed in lieu of a $20,000 secured bond.
The car's owner, Rose Marie Artis of Goldsboro, also reported the theft of a stun gun and personal papers.
When Smith and Wade were arrested by Officer P.M. Carcirieri, several stolen items were recovered, and matched those described by Ms. Artis, the report said.
One of Ms. Artis' passengers, Sheshona Williamson, reported the theft of $200 from the car. The other passenger, Juani Artis, said clothing and starch, valued at $6, was taken. The car had been parked at Dunleavy's at 2715 E. Ash St.
Cigarettes stolen
Twenty cartons of cigarettes, $1,370 in cash and about $500 in $2 bills and state quarters were stolen before dawn today from the Rosewood Foodliner supermarket at 805 Rosewood Road. A report from the Wayne County Sheriff's Office said someone had removed metal siding and entered the building between 10:30 p.m. Thursday and 6 a.m. today.
The cigarettes were valued at $460. Damage was put at $500.
Drug roundup
An 18th person has been arrested by authorities as a result of a nine-month undercover drug campaign that targeted low- to mid-level dealers.
Alesia Stokes, 39, of Country View Drive was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine and sale and delivery of cocaine. She was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $20,000 secured bond.
Three hurt in wrecks
Three people were injured and damages were estimated at $16,950 in four recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, officers reported.
*A driver from Jacksonville was injured at 11:26 a.m. Thursday on North William Street near Ash Street, Goldsboro police said. Jeannine Lynnette Hines, 33, was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. Ernest Lee Graham, 43, of Atlanta, was charged with following too closely. Damages were set at $300.
*A driver from Wilson was injured at 9:45 p.m. Wednesday on Herman Lane Road near Faro Road, the Highway Patrol said. Clifton Paul Ellis Jr., 20, was released after emergency-room treatment. Ellis told troopers that he swerved to the left to avoid a deer in the road and his car struck a driveway culvert. No charges were filed. Damages were put at $5,300.
*A sport utility vehicle was demolished in a wreck at 8:35 p.m. Wednesday on U.S. 117 near Lee's Country Club Road, the Highway Patrol said. Lori H. Barwick, 38, of Clinton, was not charged after her SUV ran off the road and overturned. The SUV was valued at $9,000.
*A driver was injured at 1:14 p.m. Wednesday on Tommy's Road near U.S. 13, the Highway Patrol said. Richard Allen Walters, 37, of U.S. 13 North was released after emergency-room treatment. He was charged with exceeding a safe speed. His pickup truck hydroplaned on a wet road and struck two ditches before stopping, the report said. Damages were estimated at $2,350.
Break-ins
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*Three shotguns, a .25 caliber handgun, a home theater system, video-game equipment, a DVD player, a watch and $170 were stolen from a home in the 700 block of Pecan Road. The resident, Jay Crayton Underhill, estimated the value of the stolen property at $1,695.
*Thirty-five $100 bills were stolen from a safe in a home in the 1800 block of N.C. 111 North. An electric razor, valued at $150, also was taken. Jonathan Chad Williams reported the theft from his home.
*A John Deere riding lawn mower was stolen after a barn door was damaged in the 100 block of Woodside Circle. The resident, Jeff Wade Thomas, put a $500 value on the mower.
*A jug with about $600 and video-game equipment were stolen from a home in the 3400 block of U.S. 117 Alternate near Dudley. The resident, Lakisha Robinson, said the video-game equipment was worth $350.
Mobile home thefts
Several mobile homes on dealer lots on U.S. 70 East were broken into and property was stolen between Wednesday and Thursday, according to reports from the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.
Six homes were broken into at Goldsboro Homes at 4387 U.S. 70 East. A 42-inch high-definition television with a DVD player, a washer and a dryer, a refrigerator and curtains were stolen. The property was valued at $3,080.
The thieves had damaged molding around the TV cabinet and smashed doors and locks in the homes, the report said. Damages were estimated at $1,814.
The doors on three homes at Steve Jones Homes at 4407 U.S. 70 East also were damaged. Then the thieves stole three end tables, a stove and curtains. Damage was set at $1,500. The stolen property was valued at $850.
