MOUNT OLIVE -- The N.C. Rural Center has awarded a $400,000 grant to the town of Mount Olive to help fix its sewer system.

Town Manager Ray McDonald said this morning he received notice from the center's president, Billy Ray Hall, that the grant was approved to help the town prevent rainwater from entering its cracked sewer lines.

This project is the last repair work needed to comply with the town's agreement with the state to improve its sewer system. The work will be done along Norbert Wilson Road. McDonald said the lines at the lift station there are crumbling and badly in need of replacement.
