Lindsay Johnson of Goldsboro is a recipient of a $1,500 scholarship by The Scholarships for Military Children Program.

She is a student at Liberty University and is the daughter of Eric and Betsy Johnson.

Over 7,000 students applied for the 500 scholarships, which are awarded based scholastic achievement, involvement in school and community activities, leadership potential and an essay.

Cliff Wilson, a student at Spring Creek High School, was selected to attend LeadAmerica's 2004 Cong-ressional Student Leadership Conference in Washing-ton, D.C.

Students who have a record of academic achievement and extracurricular and community involvement are invited to participate in the leadership conference. They get to choose from several academic areas including constitutional law, business and entrepreneurship, defense and intelligence, law and justice and medicine and health care.

Workshops and activities are designed to help the young people develop skills in leadership, communication, conflict resolution, team building and time management.

Nina Voltaire of Goldsboro has been awarded a $1,500 scholarship by The Scholarships for Military Children Program.

A student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, she is the daughter of Steven and Deborah Voltaire.

Amanda Harrison of Pikeville has been named to receive a $2,000 Leaders Scholarship to attend Mount Olive College.

She is the daughter of Rocky and Mary Harrison and a graduate of C. B. Aycock High School. She plans to enter Mount Olive College in August.

Leaders Scholarships are awarded to students based on acceptance, high school grade point average, SAT or ACT scores and demonstrated leadership potential. The scholarship is renewable for up to four years provided the student is enrolled full-time and completes the components of the Leadership Program.

Mellissa Oliver of Goldsboro has been named to receive a $2500 merit scholarship at Mount Olive College.

She is the daughter of Ellis and Cheri Oliver. She is a graduate of Southern Wayne High School and plans to enter Mount Olive College in the fall.

Merit Scholarships are selected on the basis of grade point average, class rank, and SAT scores, and are is renewable annually.

John Alexander Yel-verton, grandson of Margaret Yelverton of Eureka, received the Mark Clark Award while at The Citadel Summer Camp.

The Mark Clark Award is presented to the campers who best exhibit excellence in sports, physical fitness and sportsman-like conduct.

John is a student at Charlotte Country Day and is the son of Don and Betsy Yelverton.

Melinda Schuessler Harper, daughter of Ronald and Sunny Schuessler of Goldsboro, graduated on Aug. 14 from the University of Tennessee with her Ph.D. in clinical psychology. She completed her pre-doctoral clinical psychology internship at Yale University School of Medicine in the Department of Psychiatry. She is currently employed as a clinical psychologist in a postdoctoral position with Yale University Health Services.

Melissa J. Williams of Pikeville has been awarded at Transfer High Honors Scholarship at Barton College. The renewable scholarship will cover $3,000 of tuition for the year.

Ms. Williams transferred to Barton from Wayne Community College. She plans to major in criminal justice and criminology.

She is the wife of David E. Williams, the daughter of Jean Butler of Goldsboro and Barry Huffman of Kill Devil Hills and the stepdaughter of Carl Baumann of Clermont, Fla.

Angela Delores Floyd of Pikeville is the recipient of a Transfer Incentive Award at Barton College. The renewable scholarship will cover $1,000 tuition for the year.

Mrs. Floyd is a former student at Wilson Technical Community College. She is the wife of William Floyd of Pikeville and the daughter of Willie and Scarlet Pridgen of Goldsboro.

Aaron Robert Dunmire of Goldsboro received the Mark Clark Award while attending summer camp at The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina.

The Mark Clark Award is presented to campers who exhibit excellence in sports, physical fitness and sportsman-like conduct.

Aaron is a student at St. Mary Catholic School. He is the son of Robert Braden Dunmire III and Joyce Smith. His grandparents are Kathryn and Robert Braden Dunmire Jr. of Deland, Fla., and Julita and Bernardo Sumpio of Henderson, Fla.

Sterling Tadlock has been awarded a Sam Walton Community Scholarship.

A freshman at Duke University, where he plans to major in biology, he was the valedictorian of his 2004 graduating class at Southern Wayne High School. He attends Falling Creek Baptist Church and volunteers with the Grantham E.M.S. Squad.

Robert Bero II, an honor graduate of Eastern Wayne High School, has been awarded a Sam Walton Community Scholarship.

Bero is a freshman at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he is in the pre-pharmacy program.

Wayne T. Madry of Goldsboro received a master of arts in organization management from the University of Phoenix Online. Commencement ceremonies were held on July 23 in Phoenix, Ariz.

Heather Fulghum, Stephanie Harris, and Abigail Parks have been awarded North Carolina Nurse Scholar awards to attend Wayne Community College and Rhonda Van Hook received the award to attend East Carolina University. Each student will receive $3,000 for each academic year. The N.C. Nurse Scholars Commission selects recipients based on academic achievement, school and community involvement and leadership potential.

Brian Douglas Jones of Mount Olive earned all A's for the summer semester and is on the President's List at James Sprunt Community College.

James R. Aycock of Fremont is on Pitt Community College's Dean's List for the summer semester.

Melissa Mae Pender-graft of Princeton completed the requirements for a radiation therapy diploma during the summer semester at Pitt Community College.

Tammy Michele Head received the Outstanding Senior Award from Western Carolina University's College of Business. The daughter of Tony and Cathy Head of Pikeville, Miss Head was a senior during the past spring semester majoring in business administration and law.
