Fugitive caught
Garner
A Dudley man wanted by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office on three felony charges stemming from a shooting was captured Tuesday during a traffic stop in Norfolk, Va.
Quanta Keneil Garner, 22, of Jenny Lane will be extradited to Goldsboro, officials said.
Garner was charged with two counts of discharge of a firearm into occupied property and one count of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill while inflicting serious injury. Garner was accused of firing a weapon into a home on Jenny Lane and striking his uncle, Lonnie Garner in the hip, on May 27. The uncle was treated for his injury and released from a hospital. Two other mobile homes in the same park also were damaged by gunfire.
Three drivers injured
Three drivers were injured and four vehicles were demolished in three recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, the Highway Patrol reported.
*Two drivers were injured and both vehicles were demolished in a collision at 8:40 p.m. Monday at U.S. 70 and Walnut Creek Drive, the Highway Patrol said. Lucian VanBuren Libby, 44, of Newport was listed today in stable condition at Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. Lauren Michelle Jennings, 17, of Point Shore Drive was treated and released from the hospital. Ms. Jennings was charged with a safe-movement violation. The report said she had started a left turn and the sport utility vehicle that she was driving collided with Libby's eastbound minivan. The vehicles were valued at $17,000.
*A car was demolished in a wreck at 3:15 p.m. Monday on Drummersville Road near N.C. 55, the Highway Patrol said. The driver, Joshua William Jackson, 16, of Sanderson Road, Seven Springs, was not injured. The report said the northbound car fishtailed on the road, ran off the left side, struck a ditch and overturned. The car was valued at $6,000.
*A driver was injured and the car that she was driving was demolished at 5:35 p.m. Friday on Big Daddy's Road near Airport Road, the Highway Patrol said. Tammy Darlene Mokus, 30, of Walstonburg was released after emergency-room treatment. No charges were filed. She told troopers that she had swerved to miss a dog in the road and the westbound auto ran off the right side, struck a mail box and a driveway and overturned. Damages were estimated at $8,500.
Investigations
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*Vandals kicked open a door to a vacant mobile home in the 400 block of Pleasant Pines Drive and sprayed black paint, causing an estimated $1,918 in damages, sheriff's deputies said. Walls, a refrigerator and two curtains and rods were damaged at an unknown time. The home is owned by Quality Homes of 4043 McLain St.
*A thief cut a hole in a chain-link fence, stole four tractor tires and a blower from Pate-Dawson Co. at 402 Commerce Court, deputies said. A night watchman saw a person hiding under a truck, but the intruder ran away. The tires, valued at $250, and $100 in a box were recovered outside of the fence. The blower was valued at $300. Damage was set at $200.
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*An orange 2003 Suzuki motorcycle was stolen before dawn today from a porch in the 500 block of Boxwood Lane, police said. The owner and resident, Chad Lamar McFadden, said the cycle was worth $16,000.
*A safe was stolen Tuesday after a door was damaged at an apartment in the 900 block of Evergreen Avenue, police said. The resident, K.I. Cobb, estimated the value of the safe at $125 and damage at $35.
