The Wayne County Chapter of the American Red Cross is now doing welfare inquiries.

Teresa Williams, disaster director, said that means that people here may call to find out the status of those in Florida who were in the area affected by Hurricane Charley.

She said the chapter has already had a couple calls this morning.

To do a welfare inquiry, you need to have the complete name of the person you are asking about, his address, home phone number, work name, work phone number, members in his household, ethnic background and gender.

Mrs. Williams said this service is not limited to just family members, but friends and colleagues may also make welfare inquiries.

The chapter's phone number is 735-7201.
