Cigarettes stolen
A thief drove a vehicle into the front doors of a convenience store, cut the electric wires and stole 30 boxes of cigarettes, a Goldsboro police report said.
The cigarettes, valued at $2,749, were stolen from Fast Lane at 909 S. Dr. M.L. King Jr. Expressway. Damage to the store was estimated at $2,150.
Five hurt in wrecks
Five people were injured and damages were estimated at $17,500 in four recent traffic collisions in Goldsboro, police reported.
*Three people were injured in a two-vehicle crash at 11:20 a.m. Saturday at U.S. 70 West and West Grantham Street, police said. Melanie Jeannette Narron, 32, and her passenger, Cierra Morris, 12, both of Gurley Dairy Road, Pikeville, were treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital. The other driver, Amelia Lewis, 31, of Darrell Road, LaGrange, left the hospital, a spokeswoman said. Ms. Narron was charged with driving while her license was revoked and a safe-movement violation. Damages were put at $4,000.
*A driver was injured and a pickup truck was demolished in a wreck at 8 a.m. Saturday on Dr. M.L. King Jr. Expressway South near West Elm Street, police said. Maria De Los Angeles Garcia, 36, of Jake Drive, Dudley, was released after emergency-room treatment. Ms. Garcia also was charged with exceeding a safe speed after the truck ran off the right side, overturned and struck a guide wire to a power pole. Damages were set at $5,500.
*A passenger was injured in a hit-and-run collision at 9:51 p.m. Saturday at Royall and North Spence avenues, Goldsboro police said. Jonathan Gurley, 14, of Mary Lane, was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. He was riding with William N. Stadder, 27, of Mary Lane. Stadder's westbound sport utility vehicle collided with a northbound SUV that did not stop for a red light, officers said. Damage was set at $3,000 to Stadder's SUV.
*Damage was estimated at $5,000 in a one-car, hit-and-run wreck at 10:06 p.m. Saturday on 11th Street near Cooke Street, police said. The car was registered to Tammy LaShelle Perkins of Brewington Drive, Dudley. The car ran off the right side, struck a ditch and overturned.
Break-ins
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*Two televisions, one with a VCR and the other with a DVD player built in, a microwave oven, a photo copier, a compact disc player and a cassette player were stolen between Friday and Sunday from Garris Chapel United Methodist Church at 823 Piney Grove Church Road, sheriff's deputies said. The property was valued at $1,350.
*Tools and two ladders were stolen between Thursday and Friday after a lock was damaged on a trailer in the 800 block of Piney Grove Church Road, deputies said. The tools included two saws, a drill, a grinder, a trim gun and a framer gun. The property, valued at $2,260, was owned by Woodard Brothers Construction Co. of Selma. Damage was set at $50.
*Sixty compact discs, work equipment, a book bag, sunglasses, personal papers and cash were stolen Sunday after a car door was damaged in the 300 block of Brentwood Drive, deputies said. The owner, Tara Danette McKinney of Pikeville, estimated the property's value at more than $275 and damage at $400.
*A 20-gauge shotgun, a weed trimmer, a chain saw, a gas blower and hand tools were stolen between Thursday and Friday from an unlocked garage in the 1800 block of Pineview Cemetery Road, deputies said. The owner and resident, Matthew Joseph Rouse, put a $1,150 value on his property.
Ring stolen
Police are investigating the theft of a man's gold ring with diamonds on Saturday from C&B Jewelers at 1015 N. William St.
A clerk told police that a man asked to see the ring, grabbed it and ran from the store. The suspect was described as black, 5-feet-8 and 170 pounds with a thin build, facial hair, black hair and brown eyes. He wore a gray T-shirt, blue jeans and a blue and white hat. The ring was valued at $1,500.
Motorcyclist assault
Five men have been arrested by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office and charged with assault with a deadly weapon and assault in connection with an attack at a bar on U.S. 117 South.
The five members of a motorcycle club were accused of assaulting a person on July 31 at Whitetail Landing.
Russell Danny Fritz, 45, of Racegate Run was held in lieu of an $800 secured bond. Alan Costa, 45, of U.S. 13 South, Dudley; Eric Parks, 28, of Hollybrook Lane; Jason Holloway, 24, of O'Berry Road, Dudley, and Joseph Sandlin Phipps, 37, of Somerset Drive were held on $500 secured bonds.
Car theft
A 21-year-old Goldsboro man was arrested Saturday by Goldsboro police and charged with felony larceny and felony possession of a stolen car.
Thomas Woodrow Rice Jr. of Lincoln Drive also was charged with two counts of resisting arrest. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $28,000 secured bond. The 2004 Dodge Neon was returned to the dealership.
Park arrests
Three men have been arrested by Goldsboro police and charged after their car was stopped in Herman Park.
*Jose Soto Martinez, 28, of New Hope Road, LaGrange, was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, possession of marijuana, no liability insurance and no registration. His bond was set at $1,500.
*Ruben Vargas, 23, of Race Track Road, La Grange, was charged with carrying a concealed weapon and possession of marijuana. His bond was set at $500.
*Carl Jordan Lewis, 22, who did not disclose a home address, was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, possession of marijuana, fictitious registration, failure to carry a driver's license and an opened container violation. His bond was set at $1,500.
Missing
A 17-year-old Goldsboro boy has been reported missing to Goldsboro police. Kevin Alando Turner of 1900 Palm St. was described as black, 5-feet-11 and 130 pounds with black hair, brown eyes and a medium complexion.
When he was seen last at 10 p.m. Aug. 9, he was wearing a black shirt, shorts and tennis shoes. Anyone with information on his location was asked to call police at 705-6572.
Correction
The age of Tabitha Cole Jacobs and the name of her missing dog were incorrect in Friday's News-Argus. She is 21, and her dog's name is Beethoven. Anyone with information on the St. Bernard, chow and boxer mix was asked to call her at 739-4988. The dog is wearing a dark blue collar and has a rabies tag ID number of T565.
