More than 3,000 students are expected to start classes at Wayne Community College this week.
Registration closed late Friday afternoon, but a final tally of students enrolled will not be released until mid-week.
Tara Humphries, public information officer at the college, said the total enrollment figure for the fall depends on the second term on the base, which begins in October.
The director of admissions, Susan Sasser, said the numbers so far are in line with the same time last year. In 2003, there were 3,104 students involved in certificate, diploma, associate and college transfer programs at the school.
Dr. Edward H. Wilson, Jr., college president, said, "It looks very good. Everyone involved in the enrollment process is busy. The halls will be humming with student activity Monday morning when classes start."
