Wreck caused
by drunken driver,
says Highway Patrol
A head-on collision, allegedly caused by a drunken driver, sent two people to the hospital Sunday night, the N.C. Highway Patrol reports.
George Clayton Worrell III, 33, of Daw Pate Road, was driving north on N.C. 111 when his 2001 Toyota crossed the center line, the report said.
Candice Joy Best, 17, of Comet Drive, was driving a 1998 Ford when she was hit.
Worrell and Miss Best were transported to Wayne Memorial Hospital where both were treated and released, a hospital spokesman said today.
Michael Cloutier, 23, of Rosewood Road, a passenger in the Ford, was also reportedly injured in the accident but did not go to the hospital.
The Highway Patrol charged Worrell with driving while impaired and driving left of center. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail under $1,000 bond. Blood-alcohol content results were not available.
Investigations
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*Lillian Jackson told police that someone took $150 in cash and other items from her pocketbook as she slept in her apartment on A Street early Wednesday.
*Edward Allen Parrish Sr. reported the theft of a blower and pressure washer, worth $1,000, from a trailer outside his Shelly Drive home early Wednesday.
*Jewelry and china, worth $900, are missing following a break-in this week at the Florida Street home of Judy Capps Edwards.
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*Marcia Spell Jones reported the theft of a Sony camcorder valued at $600 from her car as it was parked outside her home on Amelia Court Wednesday morning.
*A 1978 Ford sedan belonging to Keith Douglas Boykin of Wilson was stolen this week from outside a home on Greg Drive. The car is valued at $250.
*Sheila Marie Witthoft reported the theft of a PlayStation II and 15 games from her home on Avon Court Tuesday.
Cow, deer
lead to accidents
The N.C. Highway Patrol responded to two wrecks this week caused by animals in the road.
A 2000 Mitsubishi caught fire after it struck a deer at 1 a.m. Tuesday on Genoa Road, near Potts Road. Christine Douglas, 39, of Flamingo Circle, Dudley, and her passenger were not injured, but the vehicle had an estimated $8,000 in damages.
Around 10:30 p.m. Sunday, a 2001 Buick hit a cow that was standing partially on Old Seven Springs Road. The car had an estimated $2,500 worth of damages. No injuries were reported by Matilda Pearsall Lofton, 48, of Indian Springs Road, or her passengers.
