$350,000 in drugs

seized near Faro

A 53-year-old woman was arrested Thursday by the Goldsboro-Wayne County Drug Squad and charged with two drug trafficking offenses after officers seized more than $350,000 worth of drugs from her home near Faro.

Rosa Icela Sanchez of Shackleford Road was charged with trafficking in cocaine and trafficking in marijuana. She also was charged with maintaining a dwelling for the purpose of keeping and selling cocaine and marijuana.

Officers used a search warrant to seize about 426 grams of cocaine and about 127 pounds of marijuana. The cocaine had a street value of $42,600, and the marijuana had a street value of $317,500.

Ms. Sanchez was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $2 million bond.

The Wayne County Sheriff's Office's warrant squad, Aggressive Criminal Enforcement Team and search dogs assisted in the arrest. More arrests are pending, officers said.

Wal-Mart scare

A bomb threat telephoned Thursday to the Wal-Mart store at 1002 N. Spence Ave. turned out to be a hoax.

The store was evacuated for more than an hour after the call. Police and fire Ddepartment personnel searched the building but found nothing.

Four hurt in wrecks

Four people were injured and damages were estimated at $9,850 in three recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, officers reported.

*A passenger was injured in a two-vehicle collision at 2:05 p.m. Thursday at West Grantham Street and a U.S. 70 service road, Goldsboro police said. Arlene Nicole Ferrell, 24, of Short Street, was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. Ms. Ferrell was riding with Denise Lynn Morse, 26, of Gatsey Court, LaGrange. The driver of a tractor-trailer was identified as Tallis Unique Purvis, 28, of Bethel. Damages were set at $2,350. No charges were preferred.

*Two people were injured in a two-vehicle crash at 11:40 a.m. Tuesday at Old Mount Olive and Genoa roads, the Highway Patrol said. One driver, Rodolph Orlando Garner, 46, of Countryview Lane, and his passenger, Janet Dawson, 42, of East Washington Street, LaGrange, were released after emergency-room treatment. The driver of a state car, Steven Douglas Daniels, 52, of Washington, N.C., was charged with a stop-sign violation. Damages were put at $3,000.

*A westbound driver from Rocky Mount was injured in a two-car wreck at 12:35 p.m. Tuesday at Wayne Memorial Drive and New Hope Road, the Highway Patrol said. Helen Otto Silcott, 43, was released after emergency-room treatment. The other motorist was identified as Heather Renee Edwards, 19, of Short Road, Pikeville. Troopers said the traffic light was not working. Damages were estimated at $4,500.

Investigations

Wayne County law-enforcement officers are investigating these reports:

*Two chairs, steaks and lip balm were stolen Thursday after a door glass was smashed in a home in the 400 block of North Carolina Street, Goldsboro police said. The resident, Joyce Craig, said the property was worth $170. No damage estimate was listed.

*A wallet and sunglasses were stolen Thursday after a car window was broken in the Berkeley Mall parking lot, police said. The owner, Terry William Smith of Goldsboro, estimated his property's value at $155 and damage at $250.

*A Coleman generator was stolen between Wednesday and Thursday from an unlocked shed in the 1600 block of Rawlings Street, police said. The resident, Doris Mullins, put a $5,000 value on it.

*A green, 16-horsepower Sears Craftsman riding lawn mower was stolen Thursday from a garage in the 200 block of Drummersville Road, near Seven Springs, sheriff's deputies said. The owner and resident, Alfredo Gomez, put a $1,200 value on the mower.

Three charged

Three people from Odom Farm Road near Dudley have been arrested by the Goldsboro-Wayne County Drug Squad.

*Keith Faison, 25, was charged with felony possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $5,000 secured bond.

*Thyesia Usher, 28, was charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana and resisting arrest. Her secured bond was set at $1,500.

*Larenz Suggs, 25, was charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana. His secured bond was set at $1,000 bond.
