Robbery foiled
When an armed, masked man entered a convenience store Wednesday night and demanded money, the 66-year-old owner had a solution, Goldsboro police said today.
The owner of H&A Quick Mart at 3515 Central Heights Road -- Ahmed Mohammed Al-Shaddadi -- drew his own firearm, and the would-be robber fled without any cash.
The suspect was described as being black and 18 to 21 years old. He wore a pro football team jersey, dark shorts and white shoes.
Meanwhile, an employee at Christ Centered Church Inc. at 1306 Florida St. was not so fortunate. He saw a teen-aged boy loitering in the church Tuesday. When he asked the teen how he got inside, he said came through an unlocked door. The boy ran away. Later the employee discovered that $59 was missing.
Investigations
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*Video-game equipment, vehicle keys, a black light and $15 were stolen after a window was damaged at a home in the 1900 block of Carolina Circle. The resident, Kevin Randolph, put a $120 value on the stolen property.
*A 2001 Suzuki four-wheeler was stolen from the 300 block of Rollingwood Drive. The resident and owner, Launcelot T. Wilder, said it was worth $8,500.
*A DVD-VCR combination, a Michael Jordan basketball card and picture and food were stolen Wednesday after a door was forced open at an apartment in the 100 block of Scott Hill Drive. The resident, Renaye Ann Johnson, put a $230 value on the property.
*Three boxes of figurines and two antique lamps were stolen after a door was forced open at a home in the 300 block of Big Daddy's Road. The owner, H.N. Goff, said the property was valued at $150.
*Five windows were smashed at two homes under construction in the 100 block of Askew Place. Damage was estimated by Cooke Construction Co. at $1,450.
Thefts
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*A yellow and black 2004 Suzuki motorcycle was stolen between Tuesday and Wednesday from the 200 block of Harding Drive, police said. The owner and resident, Brian J. Crawford said the bike was chained and worth $12,500.
*A 1965 Kinston High School class ring, a gold ring, two watches and change were stolen Wednesday after a door was forced open at an apartment in the 500 block of East Beech Street, police said. The resident, Nick Katsis, put a $812 value on his property.
*A stereo unit was stolen between Sunday and Wednesday after a car window was smashed at Ash Street Automotive at 602 E. Ash St., police said. Two tires and two rims also were taken. The stolen property was valued at $300. Damage to the car, owned by Leonor Ariste of Goldsboro, was fixed at $100.
*Four tables were stolen and two others were damaged between Friday and Wednesday at Resources Exchange at 700 S. George St., police said. The stolen tables were valued at $1,000. Damage was set at $600. No sign of forced entry was reported.
Sex charge
A 36-year-old man was arrested Tuesday by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office and charged with attempted second-degree rape.
Norman Lee Fillers of Howell Road was arrested after an investigation of a complaint filed by a 22-year-old woman, Detective Sgt. Tammy Odom said. Fillers was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $90,000 secured bond.
Two hurt in wreck
Two people were injured Tuesday when their car was struck by a tractor-trailer at Parkstown and LaGrange roads, the Highway Patrol said
The driver, Ijeoma Chinego Ukamaka Anen, 19, of Cary was airlifted to Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville. He was treated, admitted and released, a spokeswoman said.
Anen's passenger, Jamilah Taylor, 19, of Luther Drive, was rushed by ambulance to Wayne Memorial Hospital, where she was treated and released, a spokeswoman said.
Anen was driving north and failed to stop at a stop sign on LaGrange Road, Trooper B.W. Overton said. The car collided with an eastbound tractor-trailer, driven by Willie Lee Forbes, 70, of Ayden. Overton said charges are pending.
The 1997 Nissan car, valued at $8,000, was demolished. It was registered to Ngozi C. Anenyeonwu of Cary. Damage was set at $3,500 to the tractor-trailer, registered to Charles Melvin Tyson of Ayden.
In other collisions:
*A driver from Goldsboro was injured and damages were estimated at $9,150 in a three-car collision at 12:26 p.m. Wednesday at East Mulberry and North Herman streets, Goldsboro police said. Myrtle M. Russell, 59, of North Jefferson Avenue was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital. Another driver, Angela Shermaine Martin, 30, of Palm Street, was charged with a stoplight violation. Police said Ms. Martin's northbound car collided with Ms. Russell's westbound auto and then ricocheted into a stopped southbound car driven by Charles Evans Skelton, 55, of Four Oaks.
*A driver from Goldsboro was injured in a three-vehicle crash at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Royall Avenue and Landmark Drive, police said. Tanesha Loraine Harvey, 30, of Central Heights Road was released after emergency-room treatment. A second motorist, Shelly B. Baker, 30, of Camp Jubilee Road, Seven Springs, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end crash. The third eastbound driver was identified as Jacob Marshall Battles, 22, of Greenville. Damages were set at $900.
*Two people were injured and damages were estimated at $7,500 in a two-vehicle collision at 1:55 p.m. Monday at U.S. 117 and Country Club Road, the Highway Patrol said. A northbound driver, Noah B. Barefoot, 66, and his passenger, Westa Barefoot, 63, both of Roseboro, were released after emergency-room treatment. An eastbound motorist, William Haywood Bunch, 65, of Steele Street, Mount Olive, was charged with a yield violation.
*A driver was injured in a two-car crash at 8:15 a.m. Monday on Wayne Memorial Drive near Saulston Road, the Highway Patrol said. Jessica Lee Mary Dupras, 26, of Daryl Drive was released after emergency-room treatment. The other driver, Cynthia J. Baker, 46, of Saulsberry Drive, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end crash. Damages were put at $1,300.
