Wayne Community College Continuing Education will offer a new introductory course for people considering careers as secretaries or assistants in law firms.

The Introduction to Legal Assistant class will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays, Aug. 16 through Dec. 8.

Students can register and pay the $60 fee during early registration next week in the Continuing Education Office in the Dogwood Building on the campus or at the first class in Room 214 of the same building.

The course is designed for students with little or no background in the legal profession and will provide them with the terminology, basic procedures and documents and concepts of various fields of law necessary to work in a law office.

Instructor Genevieve "Jenna" Thompson is a legal assistant for lawyer Jon Williams and formerly worked for Judge Rose Williams.

According to the occupational education program director, Carlos Cotto, more than half of the students from the last class were hired for jobs in the legal field.

For more information, call Cotto at 919-735-5151, extension 219.
