Continuing education registration to begin

Early registration for fall semester continuing education courses at Wayne Community College will be held next week.
Students can sign up and pay fees from 9 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 7 p.m., July 26-29, and 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3 p.m. on July 30 in the Continuing Education Office in Room 101 of the Dogwood Building.
Most course fees range from $35 to $66.25. Any necessary books and materials are purchased separately.
Classes start as early as Aug. 16, with short courses beginning at different times throughout the semester.
Students may register and pay fees at the first class, but because some courses have limited enrollment and are filled on a first-come, first served basis, students are encouraged to register early to guarantee a seat.
Wayne Community College will offer more than 160 continuing education classes this fall. Some of the most popular are occupational courses, including nurse aide, pharmacy technician, notary public and auto inspection. More than 50 of those are computer courses ranging from the special slow-paced Introduction to Computers to the courses that lead to A Plus, Network Plus or Cisco certifications.
A number of courses are offered in Spanish, including two levels of auto mechanics, two levels of electronics and electricity, and Office 2000/Word.
For those who need to learn to speak Spanish, the college is offering courses for dental staff and physicians' office personnel, and other occupational Spanish courses are available for the asking.
Dozens of community service courses ranging from holiday flower arranging and sewing custom draperies to taxidermy and upholstery will be offered. For fans of artist Bob Ross, three subjects of his painting style will be taught: technique, florals and landscapes.
Courses are held at a variety of times and places. In addition to the college's main campus, several churches and community sites in Goldsboro, Mount Olive, Dudley and Rosewood serve as class locations.
Even a student's den can be his classroom, with hundreds of courses related to computers, professional development and certification, personal enrichment, and general educational topics. Go to www.ed2go.com/waynecc to see the selection of six-week courses. Course costs are $55.
Courses in two areas require consultation with program directors prior to registration. Anyone interested in Computer Basics for the Job Search and Work-Life-Balance, which are designed for under- or unemployed adults, should contact Michelle Hines. Emergency medical technician, paramedic and fire certification courses require pre-approval by Debbie Harris, Jeff Bright or James Farfour.
If the topic is not on the current schedule list or has not been previously offered, prospective students should call and suggest the course to the Continuing Education Division, or for business-related topics, the Small Business and Industry Center. If there is enough community interest and a qualified instructor is available, the division will add a new course.
