John Berry to perform

John Berry will be the special guest at the 23rd annual Colgate Country Showdown on Saturday at the Paramount Theater at 7 p.m., and will perform a concert immediately following the contest.
Berry has multiple gold and platinum albums and has received nominations from the Academy of Country Music, Country Music Awards and the Grammy Awards.
Most of the contestants in Saturday's contest are from Wayne, Johnston, Wilson and Lenoir counties. The winner will advance to the regional showdown.
Tickets for the Saturday showdown and Berry concert cost $17.50 and are available at the radio station, 2581 U.S. 70 West in Goldsboro. People who wish to use a charge card to buy them can call 1-877-GET-JOHN. Information: 736-1699.
