Five charged with guns on same street
Six people, including four teen-agers, were charged Tuesday night with carrying concealed guns. Five arrests occurred on 9th Street.
Deshawnte M. Artis, 18, of Slaughter Street; David A. Dodson, 23, of Renee Drive, and Ryan T. Shepard, 22, of Quail Drive were charged with carrying a concealed weapon and simple possession. They were placed in the Wayne County Jail under a $1,000 bond.
Donovan D. DeWitt, 17, of Pineview Avenue was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, simple possession and second-degree trespassing. No bond was required for DeWitt.
Also charged was Montay Lashay Exum, 18, of Fairview Court, with carrying a concealed weapon, carrying a concealed weapon by a convicted felon and simple possession. His bond was $10,000.
In a separate incident, 17-year-old Derek Andre Kornegay of Arrington Bridge Road was charged with carrying a concealed weapon. He was arrested at the corner of Ash Street and Berkeley Boulevard and was taken to the Wayne County Jail where he was placed under a $100 bond.
Man dies in wreck
A 27-year-old Snow Hill man died in this one-car accident Sunday morning.
Michael Ray Pate of Harper Drive in Snow Hill was traveling north on U.S. 13 near Grantham when the vehicle crossed the center line. After the 1986 GMC truck crossed the center line, it ran off the road to the left. It then traveled 138 feet off the road, striking a tree, and traveling for another 27 feet before coming to a rest in a ditch.
According to the Highway Patrol report, it's not known what caused the truck to cross the center line. Firemen from Thoroughfare, Grantham and Mar Mac fire departments where dispatched, along with several rescue trucks from Wayne County EMS. Grantham firemen used several of their power tools to free Pate and another victim. Wayne County sheriff's officers assisted.
There was no further information available from the Highway Patrol on the other victim.
Robberies
Robbers in Goldsboro spent Tuesday evening stealing tennis shoes, groceries and soap from various spots in the city.
Someone stole Carl Thomason's shoes from his front porch on Lynch Drive. The three pairs of size 13 tennis shoes, valued at $325, were taken after Thomason had put them out on the porch to dry.
A little later, a man reportedly stole a container of Oil of Olay Body Wash, worth $4.99, from the Eckerds Drug Store on Ash Street.
Then, around 2 this morning, someone broke into Thomas Farlow's home on Herman Street. Farlow reported that the robber reached inside a broken window, removing $30 worth of canned goods and other groceries.
Investigations
Wayne County law enforcement officers are investigating the following crimes:
*A break-in and larceny sometime between 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and just after midnight Wednesday on Valleyview Drive. April Presnell reported that someone broke the back window of her house to get inside and steal a Playstation worth $200. Blood was found on the broken window and on the front door.
*Jimmy Hare reported his Honda motorcycle stolen from his front yard on Ebenezer Church Road. Hare said the Honda, worth $1,800, was in the yard when he went to bed. This morning it was gone. Hare said that the robbers would have needed help or a lift to take the motorcycle because it had a handlebar lock. There were tracks found in the yard belong to a dual wheel vehicle.
*The Sheriff's Office recovered a stolen car after a state Department of Transportation worker told Goldsboro police about seeing the car in a wooded area on Guilford Street. The car was reported stolen by Louis Esser of Fremont, but the Sheriff's Office hasn't been able to contact him. The 2000 Nissan, worth $18,000, was towed to Max's Auto Service Co. for storage.
*After a visit from a few friends, Jessica Allen of Laurel Street realized some items in her home were missing. She reported a laptop computer, worth $1,400, and a $300 DVD player missing.
*Someone reportedly entered an office at Dave Howell's Auto Service on Grantham Street on Tuesday, removing $315 in cash and $500 in checks. The office and desk weren't locked.
