Copper stolen
Thieves took copper in two break-ins reported to the Goldsboro Police Department.
George Street Grill at 620 N. George St. reported Monday morning the theft of $200 worth of copper wiring that had been attached to the air conditioning unit there. The investigating officer said it appeared to have been cut off.
Resource Exchange Association of Burlington reported the theft of a large amount of copper of undetermined value taken Monday afternoon from a warehouse at 700 S. George St.
Investigations
The Wayne County Sheriff's Office is investigating the following crimes:
*A Wallace man was treated and released at Wayne Memorial Hospital for stab wounds. Ronald Walls, 32, told the investigator that around midnight Monday he was walking on Legion Lake Drive near U.S. 117 Alternate when someone jumped out and stabbed him. He was struck once in the left lower arm near the wrist. He gave no description. He said he walked to a friend's house and called 911.
*Someone reportedly broke into a utility trailer parked at a church at 5566 N.C. 581 and took a skill saw and blower valued at $729 after causing $200 damage to the trailer door and padlock. The report said the trailer had last been secured on July 9. Investigators found pry marks on the back doors, and the lock appeared to have been cut off.
*Thieves took $640 worth of half-inch-thick plywood from a construction site on North Hertford. It was reported gone Sunday morning by the owner, Gary Hollingsworth of Mills Construction Co. in Raleigh, and it was last seen on July 9.
*A van was reported stolen Monday from the Fremont area home of Gabriel Harris, who is an employee of Edward Alex Wells, owner of Ace Plumbing Inc. of Raleigh. The white 2002 Ford 150 van was valued at $13,000.
The Goldsboro Police Department is investigating the following crimes:
*Someone entered a room and was not authorized to at Wayne Motel at 801 W. Grantham St. He was found sleeping there around 5:15 a.m. today, according to a report filed by Pravir Patel of the motel.
*Somebody reportedly took the door off at the hinges to a storage building on East Elm Street and took a refrigerator and ice maker valued at $300. Jack Wallace of South Madison Avenue said he gave a $140 deposit on the refrigerator and ice maker, which were installed at the storage shed at Wallace's aunt's house on East Elm. Wallace said he was going to pay the remaining $160 if they worked correctly, which he discovered they didn't.
*Thieves kicked in the door on the north side of Stephanie Wooten's home on North Madison Avenue and took a CD player and some jewelry valued at $250.
*Willie Morrise Burrell of West Holly Street reported the theft of two televisions, a DVD and VCR player, a surround sound system, a magazine rack, four picture frames and 100 CDs from his apartment. They were valued at a total of $1,744. He said he left home Thursday, and when he returned, he found the door ajar and signs of forced entry through a bedroom window.
*Somebody came in by an unsecured window on the north side of a house on Rose Street owned by Nathan Douglas Krueger of Emmaus Church Road, Dudley. Items taken included a cellular telephone, clothing and shoes, all valued at $650.
*Lori Anne Maldonado of Royall Avenue told police somebody did $100 worth of damage to a back screen door to gain entry to her home and take two Playstations and Game Cubes, 32 DVDs and a CD player, all valued at $650.
*Anita Jordan of Oak Forest Road told Goldsboro police a woman she does not know has been harassing her by calling her cell phone.
*Somebody reportedly took $950 worth of baseball jerseys and a baseball bat from Hibbett Sports at 611 C. Berkeley Blvd. An employee reported getting the registration number off the get-away car, described as a 1980s model Honda Accord, but the registration came back to a 1983 Lincoln. The suspect was described as a black man in his 30s, with rotten teeth.
Collision
Goldsboro police charged Bennie Lee Ford of Pecan Road with a safe movement violation after a collision at 7 p.m. Monday. The report said he tried to turn left onto Leslie Street from Ash and pulled into the path of an oncoming car driven by Jimmy Holmes of Indian Springs Road, Seven Springs. Holmes was treated and released at Wayne Memorial Hospital. Holmes' 2003 Chevrolet sustained $12,000 worth of damage. Ford's 1992 Mercury sustained $10,000 worth of damage. The impact from the broad-side collision pushed Ford's car into a stop sign, valued at $100.
