Woman robbed in park
A 28-year-old woman from Winston-Salem was robbed Tuesday night of a cell phone and $3 in Herman Park, according to a Goldsboro police report.
Tania M. Reavis told officers that two masked men approached her at about 11:10 p.m., displayed a handgun and ordered her to drive them to an automatic teller machine. They demanded she withdraw money, but she could not get any, the report said.
Ms. Reavis then drove back to Herman Park, the robbers took her cash and her phone and after the robbers fled, she heard a gunshot, the report said.
The robbers were black, about 25 years old. The gunman was described as 5-feet-10 and 230 pounds with a large build, black hair and brown eyes. He wore a dark jersey and shorts. The other man was not described further.
Man's body found
The body of a 23-year-old Goldsboro man was found Tuesday night in a locked upstairs room in his apartment on West Lockhaven Drive, Goldsboro police said.
The victim was identified by police as Andrew L. Norlund. His death was attributed to a gunshot wound to the head, the police report said.
Police had responded to a call of a man being locked in a room with a shotgun and found the body, officers said.
Car break-in
A man saw someone breaking into his truck and stealing a stereo before dawn today, and the robber was arrested a short time later, Wayne County sheriff's deputies said.
Isidoro Leal Morales of Kingdom Lane reported that a man had broken into his pickup at about 4:45 a.m. and was leaving with the stereo, valued at $400. Morales chased the robber and detained him on Inez Lane until Deputy G.W. Aycock arrived.
Gregory Lee Buckrham, 38, of Parkstown Road, LaGrange, was charged with breaking and entering of a vehicle and larceny. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $10,000 secured bond.
Drug charges
A 20-year-old man was arrested Tuesday by Wayne County sheriff's deputies and charged with felony and misdemeanor drug offenses on North William Street.
Matthew Lee Johnson of Misty Lane was charged with possession of a gram of cocaine and misdemeanor possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia and resisting arrest. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $9,500 secured bond.
House break-in
An estimated $14,460 worth of furniture, glassware, dishware and other property was stolen from a home in the 1500 block of East Holly Street, Goldsboro police reported.
The break-in and theft occurred between June 19 and Tuesday. The thief may have damaged a door to get inside.
Among the property stolen from the Herbert M. Watkins home were rugs, a bedroom set, two couches and a love seat, coffee tables, lamps, a silver tea set, brass geese and ducks, a crystal pitcher and glasses, a microwave, a toaster oven, a mixer, a toaster, a deep fryer, bed linens, curtains, figurines, food and accessories.
Police also are investigating these reports:
*A black and gray 2004 Honda CBR600 motorcycle was stolen Tuesday from the 1400 block of Cuyler Best Road. The resident and owner, Steven A. Eggert, put a $9,000 value on the cycle.
*A combination television and video cassette recorder and a video-game player were stolen after a door glass was smashed at a home in the 700 block of Annabelle Street. The property was valued at $300. Damage was set at $70 at the Kwaku Clark home.
*A compact disc player, nine music CDs and a carton of cigarettes were stolen today after two car windows were broken in the 1200 block of West Grantham Street. The owner, John G. Gaskill Jr. of Albertson, estimated the value of his property at $215.
*A random gunshot on Tuesday night shattered two windows in a home in the 1100 block of Park Avenue. Damage at the Mike Farfour home was estimated at $500.
Traffic accidents
A driver was injured and damages were estimated at $13,000 in three recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, officers reported.
*Damages were estimated at $5,500 at 7:40 p.m. Tuesday at Harris Street and Ben Brewington Court, Goldsboro police said. Nathaniel Cox, 66, of Bunche Drive, was charged with failure to reduce speed. The other driver was Geneva W. Berry, 65, of Weaver Drive.
*A driver was injured and his pickup was demolished in a wreck at 6:45 p.m. Monday on Falling Creek Church Road near U.S. 13, the Highway Patrol said. Marshall Anthony Tyner, 48, of Stevens Mill Road was listed today in stable condition at Wayne Memorial Hospital. The pickup overturned several times in a field, troopers said. The truck was valued at $2,500. Charges are pending, troopers said.
*Damages were estimated at $5,000 at 5:15 p.m. Saturday on Dr. M.L. King Jr. Expressway, the U.S. 70 bypass, near Oak Forest Road, the Highway Patrol said. Luis Joel Berrios Berrios, 19, of Zion Church Road, Mount Olive, was charged with failure to reduce speed. The other motorist was John Peter Fennell Jr., 41, of Sutton's Run.
Investigations
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*A white refrigerator was stolen after a door was damaged at a rental mobile home in the 100 block of Green Valley Drive. The refrigerator, owned by Evans Mobile Home Rentals of Goldsboro, was valued at $450.
*An airless sprayer and an airless gun and a 50-foot hose were stolen from a truck in the 100 block of Kendall Lane. The owner, Bennie Nelson Wolfe of Pikeville, put a $2,780 value on his property.
