A crowd of 114 people attended the Wayne County Humane Society's first Fur Bowl, on Saturday at AMF Boulevard Lanes.

"We had people waiting to get on the lanes," says Suzanne Tyler, membership chairman.

The event ran from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. and was so successful that a second one will be held next year. It appears the fund-raiser will clear about $800 for the Humane Society, Mrs. Tyler says.

More than $400 in door prizes were awarded.

The next fund-raiser will be a dog wash on Saturday, July 10, from 9 a.m. until noon at Pets Supply Plus on Berkeley Boulevard. The cost is $10 per dog. Nails can be trimmed for $3.

Applications for the society's low-cost, low-income spay neuter program will be taken Saturday at the Wayne County Library from 10 a.m. until noon. People who want financial assistance to spay or neuter their pets should bring proof of income of all members in the household. They should not bring their pets.
