PRINCETON -- A Princeton woman died in a wreck Thursday morning, and her daughter was seriously injured.

Highway Patrol officials say they don't know what caused the fatal crash on Massey Holt Road.

Jennifer Crawford, 22, of Princeton and her 2-year old daughter, Rebecca Ann Crawford, were airlifted to Duke Medical Center after the single-car crash, which occurred around 7 a.m.

Ms. Crawford was pronounced dead at the hospital Thursday, and her daughter was listed in serious condition this morning.

Trooper A.K. Carlton said the car was going south on Massey Holt Road, ran off the road on the left, struck a ditch, then a tree. It then overturned and struck a second tree before coming to rest.

Ms. Crawford was ejected from the vehicle. Her daughter, who had been in a child seat in the back, was found pinned between the front and back seats on the driver's side. Carlton said it appears the straps were not tight enough.

He said there was a curve in the road, but not a significant one. "We don't know the cause," he said. "She may have been exceeding the speed limit some, but not a whole lot, we don't think."
