Monday was Gloria Benton's first day on the job at the Wayne County Services on Aging.
She is the new activities director.
Ms. Benton came from Alterra Sterling, where she was the "life enrichment coordinator," a name she says reflects the philosophy that the purpose is to enrich the lives of the residents, not just furnish them with something to do.
She has done this for about five years.
"It's the best job," she said. "You get to do all the fun stuff."
She will be planning and organizing some more trips for the seniors, who have already gone on numerous outings. Some are day trips. Some are over-nighters. One was a 10-day trip to the national parks. The seniors flew out to Colorado.
But some prefer shorter trips, said Louise Phillips, the director of the Services on Aging. "We try to make the trips available for everyone," she said.
