Man captured
Horne
FREMONT -- A Fremont man wanted by authorities for two years on outstanding drug violations was arrested Tuesday by Fremont police after a brief vehicle and foot chase.
Timothy Robert Horne, 24, of East Washington Street was spotted at about 8:45 a.m. on Wooten Street. Fremont Police Chief Ben Reid said Horne was chased across the south end of town until he was captured on Goldsboro Street.
"We've been trying to get him for a long time," the chief said.
Horne had been charged May 28, 2002, with two felony counts of trafficking in cocaine and one felony count of possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, sale of cocaine and maintaining a dwelling or vehicle for the purpose of keeping and selling cocaine.
Reid charged Horne on Tuesday with felony fleeing to elude arrest and four misdemeanors -- reckless driving, driving while his license was revoked, speeding and possession of marijuana.
Horne was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $204,000 secured bond. He was to have a first court appearance later this week.
Home, car damaged
Obscenities and racial slurs were painted between Tuesday and dawn today on a mobile home and a car in the 200 block of Duck Ridge Drive, a Wayne County Sheriff's Office report said. But the owner of the property says he does not believe the vandalism was racially motivated.
The resident, Anthony K. Richardson, estimated damage at $4,000 to his car and $1,000 to the home. The vandalism occurred between 4:30 p.m. Tuesday and 5 a.m. today.
Richardson told the News-Argus today that he believed that teen-agers, not racially motivated adults, had committed the crime. The graffiti made reference to the Klu Klux Klan, but was misspelled as "clan."
"I know it was a teen-ager," he said. "They spelled Klan wrong. You know it's a teen-ager who does not know how to spell. An adult would know how to write Klan. ƒ It's someone who knows this is my car."
Richardson said his wife saw the vandalism when she got home from work at 4:55 a.m.
Racial slurs were written in black and blue on the side of his house and on his white Ford Taurus. The car also had derogatory female names on it, and it had been egged. He said his wife's car also had been scratched.
Driver injured
A driver from Goldsboro was injured Tuesday when she swerved to avoid another vehicle and the commercial pickup that she was driving ran off the right side of U.S. 117 North into a ditch, the Highway Patrol said. Tekela Myeshia Cogdell, 26, of Hamilton Drive was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital.
The other driver, William Eugene Davis, 34, of Ravenna, Ohio, was charged with a yield violation. Troopers said Davis had pulled from Airport Road at 11:20 a.m. and the Advance Stores pickup that Ms. Cogdell was driving was forced off the road. Damage was estimated at $2,000 to the pickup. The truck that Davis was driving for Ideal Express of Reidsville was not damaged.
Property damaged
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*Five walls, two doors and a bathroom mirror were damaged between Friday and Tuesday in a vacant home in the 100 block of Daffodil Drive, sheriff's deputies said. The owner, Richard S. Pender of Pikeville, estimated damage at $600.
*The door to a Case excavator was damaged between June 3 and Tuesday off Big Daddy's Road, deputies said. Damage was put at $1,700, according to the owner, W.G. Dillard of Goldsboro.
Investigations
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*Gunshots damaged a wall and a ceiling before dawn today at a home in the 600 block of West Holly Street, police said. The resident, Willie Burrell, estimated damages at $400.
*An undetermined amount of money and drinks were stolen between Monday and Tuesday after a vending machine at Wayne Community College was forced open, police said. Damage was set at $200.
*A gray, four-door 1997 Mitsubishi Mirage was stolen May 30 from Courtyard Circle, police said. The driver, Marcel Linwood Ward of Albertson, did not report the theft until Tuesday. The car, owned by Pattie K. McKiver of Albertson, was valued at $5,000.
*A white, four-door 1997 Plymouth Breeze was reported stolen from A-1 Auto and Van Rentals at 1207-A N. Berkeley Blvd., police said. The car, valued at $3,147, was rented May 14 and supposed to be returned May 21.
Drug charges
A 25-year-old man from Dudley was arrested Tuesday by Goldsboro police at West Oak and North Alabama streets and charged with two felony drug violations and two misdemeanors.
Jaimie Terrill Mitchell of South Running Deer Circle was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana and maintaining a vehicle for the purpose of keeping and selling marijuana. He also was charged with driving while his license was revoked and second-degree trespass. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $5,700 secured bond.
Fraud
A 22-year-old man from Goldsboro was arrested Tuesday by Goldsboro police and charged with felony forgery and felony uttering.
Johnny Lee Harper Jr. of Alpha Court also was charged with possession of marijuana. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of an $11,000 secured bond.
