School retirees recognized

The Wayne County public schools recognized 69 retiring employees at an appreciation reception held at the Goldsboro Country Club.

Pete Gurley, the school board chairman, and Dr. Steven Taylor, schools superintendent, thanked the retirees for their many years of service and wished them well. Each retiree also received a plaque commemorating the event.

Presiding over the event was retiring Assistant Superintendent Gerald Whitley. He described his career with the Wayne County public schools as a beautiful journey, a great trip.

In his remarks, Dr. Taylor said, "When I think about retirees, regardless of position, every single position is important and has value. All of your positions directly contribute to the success of our children. All of you have enriched the lives of those you have worked with."
