Mental Health Association holds golf event

The Mental Health Association in Wayne County will hold its annual "Family and Friends Golf Outing" Sunday and Monday at Walnut Creek Country Club.
This is typically the association's largest fund-raising event of the year, so attending is a way to have fun and help out at the same time, Executive Director Mary Hunt said.
Both the Sunday night dinner and the golf on Monday are family events, and all skill levels of golfers are welcome, she said. "Everybody just comes out to have a good time."
Things kick off at 4:30 p.m. Sunday with a reception. The buffet dinner will begin at 5 p.m. There will be a silent auction and a putting contest from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. At 6:30 , winners will be announced for the silent auction and a live auction will begin.
Some of the items up for bids include a Dewalt heavy duty grinder, horseback riding lessons, a golf lamp, a golf ball monogrammer, carpet cleaning, a Panasonic radio-cassette, a Noah's Art Clock, a child's bowling ball and bag, Round-About skating passes, and gift certificates from area businesses.
Tickets for Sunday night's dinner are $15 for people 12 and older and $7.50 for children under 12.
Sign-in for golf will be from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. Monday. There will be a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. A cookout lunch, between noon and 1 p.m., is also included.
Golfers will have a chance at a 2004 Buick Rendezvous, valued at more than $26,000, for a hole-in-one on hole 9. That competition is open to amateurs only.
The closest to the pin on 9 will win a bicycle, while the closest to the pin on 13 will win an antique hickory shaft golf club and "The Golf Club" book.
It will cost $150 for a two-person team to play golf. That price also includes the Sunday night events and Monday lunch.

The event is chaired by Jerry Bankhead and Jim Slowinski. Others on the committee are Sandy and Gordon Bateman, Gordon Combs, Bob and Betty Geers, Ralph Smiley, Ann Stephens, Betsy Wisnieski and Jack Snyder, assisted by the association's staff, Mrs. Hunt and Sarah Dalessio.
