MOUNT OLIVE -- A 74-year-old woman from Dudley was killed Monday night when her car collided with a disabled car in northern Duplin County.
The victim was identified today by the Highway Patrol as Marjorie R. Hassell of 106 Gwen Place.
An eastbound driver who has not been identified had rounded a curve on Summerlin's Crossroads Road at about 10:30 p.m., lost control of his car, crossed the center line and stopped sideways in the westbound lane.
Highway Patrol Sgt. W.L. Taylor said Ms. Hassell was going west, rounded the curve and collided with the disabled vehicle. Her car traveled 128 feet before stopping.
The collision occurred about three-tenths of a mile from the Wayne County line and about a half-mile from Mount Olive.
The other driver was taken to Duplin General Hospital and transferred to Pitt Memorial Hospital. No charges have been filed.
